I feel that this icon is too cartoony. The light spot looks too big. The apple needs some color variations and needs to be shaded to make it 3D

You already know stuff about the background, now lets work on the shine on the apple, i wouldn't use that kind of shape for the shine. I would do like a curved think line coming down from the top of the apple towards the bottom, but not stretching the whole apple, just around the middle of it. Also, you do need to add shading to give the 3-d effect to the apple. I would do these things.
