I never knew why Blizzard replaced the #5 logo on the Gilneas banner for three claw marks, but you made their new logo better.

Not necesseraly for me but it could have a good use for mappers with custom factions.

Because tabards are mirrored in the center, so they needed a banner that is symmetrical. Also, so it matches the theme of the Worgen, even though they use the flag before they are cursed

By this, you mean they used the one with the #5, or with the claw marks?
WarCraft II never featured the banner's claw marks like WoW did in CATA.

They used the claw one in WoW Cata but even before the Worgens invaded Gilneas. It was most likely changed to that so it matches the Worgen theme since it is placed on the Worgen tabard. And since tabards are symmetrical, they had to choose a symmetrical design. As for the original symbol, that appears on Wc3 Tents, you can see it on the Worgen crest
