Recruiting for an AOS with a Huge Twist! [CotF]

8ydtl5.png

This is a project which attempts to create a strictly unique and creative AoS that focuses on Strategy, Teamwork and Hero customization above all else.

STORY
Summary:
The story will be on the lines of a group of illegal mages known as the "Hand of Forbidden" seeking to gain their birthright as a mage to practice magic freely outside of restriction by the church. The church order of Templars "Celestial Faction" found out their plans, and soon found their hideout. The mage's archmage had already established a tower in their territory but the Templars were more in number so they quickly set up their own for a chance to win in an arcane war.

This all make sense because mages fight war in towers and the theme of the game will be Demon Vs Angel based so the Mages would summon the demons and priests/templars the angels.

GAMEPLAY
  • There are two huge Towers facing each other on the battlefield. These towers will shoot slowly and every aspect about them can be upgraded by the team. One of the ways to win the game is to rush Range of the tower, so that it can hit all the way across the map and its attacks might land on the enemy's Tower.
  • The Towers' shots can be dodged with quick reflexes. However, in the later stages of the game, it won't be as easy because the AoE of the Tower can be upgraded.
  • To get resources in order to upgrade the tower, there are two ways. One: You can obtain them by killing bosses which spawn in the lanes. These Bosses will be interesting and have different abilities. One boss could be a siegebreaker boss like the one in Diablo3, it rams one direction violently, knocking everything back in its way. They spawn at certain intervals in the game and there will be indicators on your minimap for them.

In around midgame or later, there will be multiple bosses spawning in different lanes so for instance if you are leading the team you can order some of your party to defend a boss and others to attack the enemy's boss. Or just go all out on one boss.

Two: You can kill enemy heroes to gain the resource, but of course it won't be as much as the gain from boss units.
  • When you gather the resource from the slain boss, you will have to run for your life back to the tower. If you die, you also drop the resource and it will vanish in about 10 seconds if no one else picks it up. CTF moment.
  • The AOS element of AI troops vs AI troops is there to keep up the excitement of the game. Also so that the Towers do have a target to shoot instead of just heroes. It will be a counter-game for the lanes so any party member can set up a monster to spawn for the lanes as long as they pay a one-time resource. This monster can be countered by the other team, so it'll be a Rock Paper Scissors kind of game involving spawning Mages, Archers or Warriors. Archer > Mage > Warrior > Archer , something along those lines.

HEROES
There will be around 6 classes and each class can branch into 3 sub-classes. The subclasses can then branch into one last sub-sub-class which is difficult to obtain.

This signifies strategy for example, in one game, the Leader has a Archer>Ranger class scout the area with her pet or her winged mount for enemy intelligence.

The scout reports back sightings of two mages defending their boss unit on the way to the lanes. The leader then dispatches the two warriors which one of them happen to be a Templar class to go and cut off the mages. Being a templar, he is resistant to their magicks and is at a great advantage when dealing with them alone.

A note on skills and abilities:
Each 1st Class Hero has 3 passive abilities, and these passives are levelable up to level 4. They have 3 activated abilities, and these are also maxed at level 4. One ultimate with a 3 max level.

You gain 1 Skill point and 1 Ability point when you level up, the Skill point can be spent buying a passive and the Ability can be spent buying an activated ability or ultimate.

The first branch into a sub-class is available at level 10, and the last branch is avail at level 20. Level cap is 30. Now, branching will be a challenge so if you're not doing so well in the game it's unlikely that you will be able to branch straight away at level 10.

After you branch, you gain one skill and one ability as a reward. Your passives will stay the same, and retain the levels and you will gain another passive which is specific to the class you chose. The passive level cap also goes up by 4. Your abilities, however, are totally replaced with new ones.

The last branch will offer you with one more passive and a replaced ultimate.

Haha, my project post name is screwed up as well. Anyway, lets see now...

Story
Very interesting, nice idea I will have to say but you said they wanted the birthright to use magic freely, by that I presume you mean they are not allowed to use dark magic or did i get that wrong. Moving on!

Features
AoS, good that you include many unique stuff unlike DotA where the towers cannot upgraded whatsoever, many other stuff. I say your gameplay is good, even maps like NvB uses the same system of DotA thus being unpopular. Good job! Hmmm, your 6 starting classes are boring, those races are overused. You should come up with better starting classes to raise people's interest in the game.

Suggestions, put your progress on the post and some screenshots because currently, it is quite boring. I leave you with that, good luck with your map! :)

Thanks for the review!
Yes, Templars/Inquisitors in history used to hunt down witches.

Also you're right about the gameplay. I think that if you make an AOS that has similar gameplay to DotA it will surely fail because its too hard to compete against it.

The starting classes are kind of meant to be boring and generalized. I think it's better that way because you branch into a less "boring-sounding" class. We made the abilities of the first class pretty cool too, so they won't be really boring to play.

Its tough always updating progress. But we are currently working on the terrain and finished a few heroes. When we got some solid work done we'll post the progress.

Pmed.
Just to give you guys an idea of how heroes are going to be like:

Hero drafts:

Archer

Passives:
Tracking: Improves radius of vision.
Bow Mastery: Improves rate of fire and damage.
Eagle's Mark: Improves Range.

Unleash Tiger - Ranger related
You can unleash your deadly pet which improves each level. It is automatically controlled. So when you move, it will follow you and if you attack, it will attack your target. If you select it, you can also manually control it.
You can send it to your leash to have it recover HP and be unable to attack.

Immobilizing Shot - Sniper related
A dirty fighting technique used by snipers that targets the legs and pins an enemy to the ground. The enemy will be immobile for a few seconds then will have reduced movement speed for another few seconds afterwards.

Soul Arrow - Valkyrie related
When this mode is activated, the archer gains hitpoints when shoot at the cost of reducing attack damage.

Bursting Collapse Ultimate
AOE that shoots an arrow. When it reaches its destination, it bursts open, spreading multiple arrowheads. If any enemy is hit by the arrow that splits, they are either stunned or knocked back.

Valkyrie proposal:
Valkyrie:

Ability Ideas:

- Penetrating Arrow. Infused by the spirits of the fallen , the arrow has a chance to penetrate through enemies. (Passive?)

- Einherijar Conversion. Once you slay an enemy unit there is a chance that they will convert to your side and join your force for a limited time. When they expire, they are sent to Midgar, releasing a damaging ray of light as they are sent. (Passive?)

- Short Range Mode. In this mode, you are low ranged but you can attack faster and you gain a mild block ability which is about as powerful as the 1st Class Defender's.

- Improved Soul Arrow - When activated, the valkyrie also steals mana from the enemy.

- Ragnarok - When you have at least 10 Einherijars you can send them all to Midgar to summon the aid of a godly weapon as a reward from the Aesirs. You attain this weapon for a short duration but during that time you are able to always penetrate through your enemies and have multiple shots that emits from your hero in a set arc.
Ranger

Passive:
(new) - Animal Empathy: The ranger is has an extraordinary understanding of animals. When using mounts, she gains bonus agility and movement speed.

Abilities:
- Tiger Mount: You are able to mount on your tiger, giving you a increased movement speed, and new passive pet abilities per level.
** Level 1: Roar: When surrounded by many enemies, the tiger will roar in a medium Aoe around the user. The tiger instills fear into enemies. Making them all flee unless they pass a resistance check.
** Lv2: Flash Dodge: The tiger can sense when danger is coming and is able to quickly sidestep to dodge the attack. (Jumps one direction.)
** LV3: Lunge: When at melee range with an enemy, the tiger will lunge to its prey and knock it back.
** LV4: Pursuit: When you are chasing an enemy, the tiger rages with killing instinct. It will gradually gain more and more movement speed until your movement speed is maxed. It maintains this speed for a few seconds then it will slow down to its normal speed.

- Feral Vision: The ranger is so connected with animals that she gains the ability to see through their eyes. Each level retains the previous level's effect. Activated self buff, tints the screen the respective animal's vision colour.
** Lvl 1: See through Cats eyes, improved radius of vision at night.
** Lv 2: See through Wolf eyes, danger detection (minimap blips) when enemies are within a large proximity.
** Lv 3: See through Lion eyes, when your enemy targets you, they will suffer damage due to fear. (not sure about this one)
** Lv 4: See through Eagle eyes, true sight: detect invisible rogues and traps etc.

- Wilds' Lore: You temporarily can mark a tree with an owl. When this tree is marked, you gain vision of that area and when you or your allies fight in that area you gain bonus agility and increased vision at night.

- Treant's Splendor: Activate only if you are in an area with Wilds' Lore in effect. The treants will shield you with an enchanted shield that gives you high armour and will periodically release owl-like projectiles (KotG projectiles) in a spiral, and more frequently if you are hit by an attack. This projectile will damage and heavily poison your foe.
