I am working on a selection process right now that uses a sacrificial fire type process. The problem was, I wanted the fire to be removed after the player finished selecting his character. As fire is only a doodad, I had to make a custom destructible and replaced the model with the fire doodad model. There are a few bugs with being able to walk into the fire, but it works to make the fire removable. Hope that helps.
