why do you doubt that?
i would actually say its not easier than merging animations but its definatly a lot better :P

i mean, with a standalone program like gmax you can utilize the bonez fully and animate in 3D and such....

Indeed. But some still prefer just doing it with written values only.
 
Not really. I made my newest tank with that method and it look only 2 hours.

I don't know, man. Would it not be better to use mdlvis?
I've animated in it before, as in adding an animation to an already existing wc3 unit, that is. Didn't take me longer than 10 minutes to add a burrow animationset to the hydralisk and the quality is decent. link.
