It is illegal for many reasons (read 20-page thread if interested)

What do the quotations around the word mean...that your sceptical if it really is illegal? There is an enormous thread in the Site Discussion forum about it.

Post screenshots of your map and how far you have completed it, and people will respond alot more.

WoW models are the ultimate heresy here at the HIVE. You could be burned at the bannadar stake for there use or distribution. Especially if the "Illuminai Inquisition, High Elven order of The Light" finds out.

But you know something else. Models are art pieces. And we modelers have the right to withhold our art from the public. We are not bound by a requesters demands to release models just because they want them. We only give our models to projects we know will succeed. Because we dont want our hard work to be wasted and left to rot in some filthy un-worthy project to be ripped by some thief or forgotten.

But if you prove that your project is a good one. Modelers will at least consider giving you the !PRIVELAGE! of using their art.

The moral of this story is: We are not selfish idiots. We are artists who will not stand for our work being abused, or misshandeled.

He doesn't have to give it to people. While dangling it in front of his face might have been a bit... cruel*, it can also be asking for more credentials, or maybe information on the map. Many times requests wont be fulfilled due to lack of proper info, why should this one be any different?

Yeah, when I was visiting wc3campaigns in wc3search era, what do you ppl think what was my interpretation of word 'rep' ('give me rep', 'rep good people', '+REP'). Reputation not for sure.

Well if you want to get models, don't start asking without back up. I would suggest finishing your map first, with models you can get in the models section, or just normal wc3 ones. Then show your work and people may decide to do models for your game because they like it. That's what I'm doing for my two maps right now.
