AmmoBox

A simple ammo box with ingame textures and a built-in portrait. It appears to be quite big ingame, so I suggest using a 0.60 scaling value. You can choose between a regular and unanimated box or a Warcraft-like item version in the portrait.

Otherwise, not much to say, it's quite simple yet I hope you'll find it useful in any modern combat maps!

Update 1.1 : Increased the size and the length of the bullets on the ground

Update 1.2 : Made the box thicker with a second layer

Update 1.3 : Made the material one sided, fixed normals

Update 1.4 : Added a Warcraft-style item version

Simple but it is a nice alternative to some ammo box models I know of.

Would work well in a forest or jungle environment.

Looks good and the low filesize makes it really useful for modern maps.
I'd suggest a few things, first, give that ammo box some thickness. Right now it is made of a double sided paper-thick plane. It won't cost you much more filesize or polygons to add thickness, if you don't double side it.
Second, I suggest you rig it to an Item's skeleton and upload that as a portrait version, which would make it much more useful for modern maps.
Otherwise, keep it up :)

Actually when I made it I was thinking the same, yet I feared it would be additional useless polys and increase the file size, but I agree it could definitely use some thickness. I'll improve that, thanks!

No problem. Though I couldn't help but notice you clicked the "Two-Sided" filter in magos. Let me explain how that filter works. It duplicates your model and turns all the duplicated faces created around, so that they can be viewed from the other side too, while essentialy DOUBLING your polygon count. If you fear a few polygons from thickening the box, you might want to turn that filter off. Also, if you need a double sided face in one of your models, but don't want the rest of the model to be double sided, you can just select them in Milkshape (or whatever vertex editing program you use), duplicate them and turn their edges yourself. (In milkshape that would be Ctrl+D to duplicate, then Ctrl+Shift+F to turn the faces.)
Just wanted to point that out. Happy modeling, and i'm expecting to see more from you ;)
P.S. still waiting for the item version xD
P.S.2 you can put the bottom back, it's only 4 polies...

That's right, I ticked two-sided because the box was composed of basically 4 planes, but now it's thicker, I completely forgot about that 8)
About the item version, well it is supposed to be used as an item ^^ Maybe you mean like Warcraft items and make it rotate? That was too "cartoonesque" for my map, but I can do it if you really need it.

Edit : thanks for the double side tip, that was basically the issue with this model, I'll work on that.

No problem bro, always happy to help :)
And yes, i did mean like a default WC3 item, just rig it to the bones of an item, delete the actual item and leave the particles, rotation animations and stuff... I think that would be useful to many people. Also, upload is as a "portrait", so both versions can stay. :)
P.S. Rating changed to 5/5, keep it up
