I've noticed that some of the models that appear in the Warcraft 3 Viewer are different than their counterparts in the actual game. Why does this happen? Is there a way to access the real models used by the game?

Yes, you need to open war3x when you want to see the TFT models and model updates with TFT (Gyrocopter for example). Whereas to see all other models (not models added in patches) you need to open war3.

Yeah, but some of the models in the game appear differently than the models that can be accessed outside of the game, and I'm not just talking about the FT updated models. For example, during the game if you look closely at the ghoul's face you can see it's not nearly as detailed as its portrait. But if you open the ghoul model in something like the Warcraft 3 Viewer the ghoul's face is as detailed as its portrait, and if you extract that model and import it into a map, it still appears detailed. It's like there are two ghoul models, one used in the game, and one used in the Viewer.

Oh, I'm getting what you're on about

You must have the settings lower than high ingame

To get the ones from whatever model setting you have, open the WC3.mpq with WinMPQ and look around for wc3low.mpq and wc3medium.mpq, or something along those lines

They have lower poly versions of the models

Yes! That's it! That explains everything. Thank you! :)
