I have never work on a wc3 map yet primarily because i can't make my map editor work(it keeps asking me to insert the cd!), but I think that rpg are about getting into the skin of a character, not assuming someone else's place, that ism for example, assuming the role of Goku in a dbz game. My idea might not be new, but i don't know of any game like what I'm going to explain next. Basically the map could be about anything you like, but the main idea is: code up some very good skills, very variant among them, none of them imbalance, and put them in a "shop house" or whatever. The idea is that your every Time your hero grows up a level he can buy one of these skills, there should be a top in the number of skills that he might have, and once your hero posses a skill he can level it up in the next lvl. This way the number of possibilities goes very high and also gives the player a very intense sense of "own" with the hero that he "create", it is like his own creation and respond to his likes and dislikes.
For instance suppose that like me you like speed very much, Then you'll choose as your first skill something that enhance your running speed, then something that upgrades your attacking speed, but lots of attacking speed is not good without good attack rate, so you also choose this. This is one combination over a lot, because a speeding up skill could also do other things (of course that one dedicated exclusively to speed enhances more), suppose that you've got all the skills form dota, image how many different heroes you could have! and it would be much more fun. Indeed it doesn't have to be an rpg, a dota with this feature would simply be the best warcraft3 map, at least to me :)

Hope that all this text didn't bother you. Now I expect to have motivated any good map developer with this idea because I can't do it by myself. Please any comment would be welcome.

I love criticizing people, do you know that what you just did is called man aggression fallacy, it means you said nothing except that just because I can´t get the editor to work(thing that I already fix) everything that I said should be false, even when ideas about maps has nothing to do with getting a program to work. Something else: have you ever read a book about game designing? I had read two, by very prestigious authors, I bet I know much more about game designing than you do, but since this is not a competition I will just skip such negative reply.

I personally love talking about map creation, and I think characters are very bland. So I like that you're trying to think of a way to bring them to life. With that said, I don't think abilities alone would bring a character to life.

Anyway, I don't think you should give this idea to just any map developer. It is your idea, so I think that only you would be able to expand this in a way you can appreciate. Another map developer would twist it into their own design.

What you need to do is figure out why you're worldedit isn't working. What happens when it you insert the cd? Have you tried every way into worldedit? If you see a problem with something in mainstream warcraft, you're probably the best person to do something about it.

PS. try to respect low-life, he's keeping the majority of bad maps from going anywhere. You rock, low-life.

Why don't you go and craft your awesome ultra rpg since you know so much about game design (two books! by very prestigious authors!), now that you finally got your editor working (i bet it was so so so difficult), instead of explaining 'man aggression fallacy' to random people on internet?

PROTIP: You don't need to be a fuсking genius to run the editor. Yet you failed. This is a very good reason to consider everything you say void.
