In that thread, the guy wants a straightforward solution. But if I could make the dot invisible or add some whitespace that is not equal to normal whitespace, that could be more than enough. May be I can insert a tiny icon or smth...
From my testing with fonts, the font format Warcraft 3 uses, it accounts for symbol width by itself, so technically you're free to insert however big spaces as font symbols you want, you just need to import custom font for that purpose (or edit the current one you use). You can see my Tutorial on Fonts for more details. Personally I've used custom font symbols to replace words such as "attack range" simply by displaying an arrow/bow symbol.
