It's really simple: can rejected maps become approved if the reason of rejection was fixed by an update?

Yes. Just PM the the mod that reviewed your map to review it again. It'll be put back to awaiting update before you can update it again if I remember correctly.

aslong as you keep updating it the mod will come back again.

Also, be patience. My old friend had created a map and it's take a long time till he re-review it. Just PM the mod once. Also, usually mod will give you a kind of plus minus of your map, make sure you fix them all.

Well, it's not always the moderator him/herself who will actually review it, he/she may send somebody else to do the job while he just quoted the post (this happens, sometimes).
So, consider every reviewing/suggestions posts during pending/rejected state as important because it might what decide the map's fate.

I think updating the map automatically remarks it as pending...
