That bg kinda ruins the image.

Yes the brown background is very distracting to the eye make the opacity lower so we can see the shield better.

I'm not quite sure I "dig" the style of showing just 1/4 of the shield. It sure is a new approach, but for me I'd rather have at least half of the shield visible, when you can draw 'em so nicely already.

Also, the whole thing looks a bit flat.
Notice the shading from this blizzard shield:
See how it looks more 3d. The shading along side does this.
You could use more shading in the corner and more highlights on the edges.
But, it's a very nice Icon and I vote for approval as is.
