An ad hominem argument (Latin for "to the person") is a logical fallacy in which a speaker attacks their opponent's character, motive, or personal traits rather than engaging with the substance of the opponent's actual argument.
It has nothing to do with whether what you say is true or not. When you only talk about the person posting the thread and not the request being made, you are, in fact, engaging in ad hominem.
