Here's why I made it:

It's a mistake that comes from the mindset of my native language, whereby the way each syllable is spelled is self-evident. Because of that there is no real concept of "spelling" and the english word is often translated with the word equivalent to "pronouncing"

Ah, so you're language (Italian?) is entirely phonetic? i.e. the words are spelled exactly as they are pronounced? How wondrous that must be... ; P

I love English desperately but it is a fickle mistress.

italian is largely phonetic but not entirely. The phew ambiguities from spoken to written are known as "exceptions" and are an extensive teaching topic at the elementary school so later everyone is used to them :)
