Well, the backstory's beginning is based on several different stuffs in real life history; but will gradually diverge and be unique as the story goes.

Alright, I've read it. First off, you need an anchor. Who is it that sees everything happen? It's far easier to use a character to present the events through his/her eyes. Also, you have a lot of "nobody expects the spannish inquisition" moments where someone pops out and starts shooting at people.
