  • Hmm, I actually messed up that message in the +rep. Anyway, I was going to say: "I agree really, it also seems weird that the ranger/archer at the start (Traxex?) made almost no voice or sound when she was shooting. At all. :/"
-Derp- doesn't have the proper programs in order to participate. I'll talk to him again, this time with the programs from mc #1, and see if he wants to participate. I'll try to spread the word around to my other friends too.

A lyric contest would be fun :)
The idea is to judge lyrics as you would any instrument, no more or less points given for their addition. The quality of the words themselves do not matter, it's a music contest not a story/poem/writing contest so they should not be taken into consideration in the judging - an epic poem or just neutral syllables, it's all scored the same.
You should tell them to wait, while what they do before it's accepted is fine since they basically know the theme they shouldn't be submitting wips or anything yet since all the work for the contest is technically supposed to be done while the while the contest is going on.

As for setting a date, it's mainly to show that you do have a time in mind for the contest, or if you have a time in mind that's coming up. It also shows the time-frame of the contest - in theory I guess that everyone plans out the contest early with a specefic date in mind and then submits it, and it'd be approved on the date it's supposed to start but normally it's the case like here, as soon as possible is when they'd like it kicked off.
Sorry, approving contests is Pyritie's thing, I was mainly brought on to add another moderator to offtopic but to make things easier I was given power in all of the town hall forums - since he was specifically the moderator there he sort of retained that position after becoming an admin and last time he checked he'd still prefer to handle all of that sort of thing (though he said go ahead and solve any problems in there, just leave approving and that sort of thing to him).
Lol, the chance that there will be alot to compete with is low :/ so yah!?

The final song must be at least 75% of your writing - In essence, you can use a royalty free drum loop (or other form of sampled material) in your song, but if you chose to, you must create enough of the other material or use in such a way that it can be said that YOU wrote 75% of the song. Samples of instruments simply to be used for a sequencer (like building a drum line out of specific drums or using a pitch altering sampler to make a melody out of a sound sample from an instrument) are exempt from the 75% rule.

I could provide a few drum loops for contestants to use. It would be a royalty free drum loop available to all contestants to use at their leasure, and it wouldn't be for any specific people so it wouldnt be teamwork. Being versed in a variety of genres, and having just downloaded Beatcraft, I could write out a few different ones.

    What say you host?
Thanks for the advice. I pretty much just included that in the offchance that someone actually recorded real instruments :D
No problem. The only thing is I'm going to make a song for the contest even if it's not taken into consideration.
Oh that's just the rule to prevent one person from judging well everything, we had a whole episode where one guy tried to judge like 6 contests at once and thus didn't get much done for any of them, even contests which he had no qualifications to judge.

    Deepstraz is fine
I don't remember seeing that you can't have a judge who's judged recently, if deepstraz wants to judge why not?

Let me check real quick the rules but i don't ever recall that being one
Hey JetFangInferno, that's fantastic news that I'll be judging the contest. I look forward to your entry in particular, you mentioned that you had symphonic instruments available for use, which should make for some great sounds.

I don't think it was ever released, because I only spent a month or two in the MHCCJP.

This seemed like it provided too few details, so let me elaborate, since the other post reached 1000 characters. The Mt. Hood Community College Jazz Program is famous nationwide, it has a very high level of musicianship and their drummer was touring, like I said. I got the chance to step up and work with a professional level ensemble, and it was amazing. I grew a lot during that month and a half stretch, both in quality of character and also in talent. When we tried to record the two pieces, it was crazy and hectic, I had barely had a day to practice, and it was one of those "Get up and do it, or go home" moments. I was able to keep time and do some fills, but I wasn't anywhere near the level of their regular drummer, and they decided they wanted to re-record once their regular came back. It gave me valuable experience inside a recording studio though.
I recorded back when I drummed for the Mt. Hood Community College Jazz program, and also in my high school. I don't think it was ever released, because I only spent a month or two in the MHCCJP. We recorded twice, once for Birdland, the second was another classic, Song for my Father. I as at the Jazz program because they needed a drummer for a month and a half-ish while theirs was touring with someone, but I'm still in highschool. As far as high school goes, we recorded only a single song in the studio, Clam Chowder, which was a sight reading piece. I didn't buy a recording of it, but my teacher has it. He might have uploaded it to Youtube, so I'll have to check around.

But my point is, I have been inside a recording studio and know how it works. I know my 12 basic scales and can hear wrong notes, being a percussionist I played bells and timpani in a few songs, so no need to worry about being able to read notes. Are contests also going to submit sheet music with their submissions?
Yeah he seems pretty qualified, just to be safe I'd like to see some example of his work in the past (recording of him playing or a composition of his (doesn't matter the format) or a score that he wrote, etc, etc - just anything he can provide), even if he isn't capable he still seems pretty convincing that he can judge so I wouldn't count him out if he can't but it's nice to have some assurance.
No worries, the important thing is to be happy enjoying the things you do, where I can hear some of your work?
Yeah I only used Magos' Model Editor, which was free, back when I used to make SFX models. As for music, I just find it a worthy investment because 1) I really like it and 2) I like high quality sounds xD
    Ah okay, that sounds cool!
Well I always use free programs like Milkshape and Gimp for 3d modeling and 2d art because I'm too cheap to get the high quality programs, and piracy is evil.
Thanks for the info though Jet, I'll be sure to look into those lovely things. :D
Oh, I wasn't aware of that. Well, thank you anyway. I really can't find it, so I'll figure something out.
Hello, I have been searching for a while now.. I had used a model of yours in some project I was working on (didn't release it). I have lost that map file and I can't seem to find which model I used. It's exactly like this: http://www.hiveworkshop.com/forums/models-530/invisibilitytarget-50381/
except that it didn't have a death animation, like the default Invisibility buff has (it only had a stand one or at least the death was a separate animation, not combined with the birth one). Mind telling me which one it was? Thanks in advance (lovely effects you make!). :)
