The areas with the rocks are height raised areas that use a custom model rock to hide the sides where the height is raised or lowered. I did use WC3 cliffs on the edges of the island, and the top middle area where you pick your creature though. This is one of those maps that is an exception to the way I like to terrain though, which I like terraining without relying on custom models to make my terrain look good.
