World War 3 - 2150 2.0.3a FINAL

This bundle is marked as useful / simple. Simplicity is bliss, low effort and/or may contain minor bugs.
This is my first map to the public, but it has gone under many edits. My friends and people who have played have told me what to change. I have been hosting it a lot @ USEAST as "Stratos". Hope you guys like all the hours I put in to this. The story is actually very good and it can be found at the beginning of the map. This takes place in a Russian peninsula, for all those wondering. This is completely by me except the custom models. Credit has been given where credit is due. *Check Quest for Model Credits*

wow, yet ANOTHER ww3 map? how mnay are there??? 50??? its an OK map, but could use some more work, like the income and other stuff. My WW3 map is reverting back to a beta because of all these (sorry to say but) mediocre WW3 maps that flood the servers. Im making a World in Crisis map built from my WW3 but changing it entirely.

World War 3 is a strategy type map, where a player controls a faction from the real world, such as Russia, USA etc. and his goal is to accomplish his goal. Each player has a different goal, for instance South Korea must defeat France and so on.

The terrain was done pretty averagely, but a map of this size cannot suffer a better terrain since the dodoads size would increase to a too big number, thus the terrain is fine the way it is, it serves it purpose.

Balance is a issue. The ships are pretty much imbalanced, aswell as the infantry. The robots are too weak and slow, and yet they cost so much money. The infantry is possibly the strongest. However some infantries are weaker then the other as I've heard from Rui.

The map isn't much fun to play. You basically send units to kill the other player, with not much strategy required, since imbalance exists. The huge size of the map makes it all very confusing and newb unfriendly.

Object Editor Work is another lacking thing. Poorly written tooltips and no hotkeys, aswell as no disabled icons, make the game even less attractive to play.

The packaging isn't great, lacks images, more info, Vbulletin tags, changelog should be included in hidden tags.

Overall, a map with a lot of work put into it, seems to work fine, has it's problems, but I think that I'd still vote it for Approval and 2/5 (Lacking).

"World War 3 - 2150" is a modern warfare map by Stratos, and this is my review for version 2.0.3a FINAL.
Like the name suggests, the map attempts to create a third world war, which the author did in a risk-type map.

I don't where to begin. But I'll go straight for the point: the map sucked. The terrain, the objects, the overall gameplay... they all fail.
I'll elaborate.
  • The landscape is just a bunch of buildings thrown around.
  • The object editor is limited to a bunch of units, being the ships ridiculously imba and the tanks ridiculously underpowered.
  • Speaking of power, how did you do the damage system? All the units have heavy armor and piercing attack. If you did it by triggers, I doubt it turned out right.
  • There is nothing to distinguish between the Marine Riflemen and the others. People who have experience in these types of games will completely overrun you with Marine Rocket Launchers before you realize they're different than the others.
  • The ships' models are huge.

Uninteresting is how I describe this game.
My rating is 1/5 (Unacceptable) and my vote goes for the map's [highlight]Rejection[/code].

If you like risk types of games, that is fine, but as far as I am concerned all risk games in wc3 has so far, sucked. This might be ok, but its kind of the same like the other ones.

Risk, basically has rounds. This doesnt, which makes the style overall lacking. You have no limits at all but money. Try to come up with some kind of round system, not only for income.

Everything is basically a mess. The terrain layout is fine, but could have been smoother. But the objects on it is not in my taste at all. Very less organised.

The quest system... sure, its great that you give each player a mission. Perhaps you should make it unvisible for other players. You could, for instance by using a native called GetLocalPlayer(), only view the specific mission quest for the specific player.

And yeah, like they've already mentioned. The balance is still a huge issue. Ranked somewhat Marines < Tanks < boats < IMBA air. In some way I see why the super duper spacecraft had the cost of 5000 and a construction time of 5 minutes, but 5 minutes is more than enough. Make it weaker, and suggestivily change the cooldown.
By the way, spacecraft??? That does not fit the environment at all. The model is too futurustic.

A reminder. Models are always great... But it is not the models who make the map.

My rating would be lacking, but I am not sure this should be approved yet.

Exactly what i was going to say but a while after you got DCed someone also got a ship. It could easily take the entire middle island without getting destroyed.

The marines is imbalanced, you get to many of them and they are to strong.
Splash units shouldent do to much damage, otherwise they turn imbalanced, they just splash all units to the death.

The ships is to damn big...

This map doesnt have any quality at all in the terraining. It is some gress & some water with a few houses on the map.

Its not the model that makes the map.

Thanks for all your feedback guys. I know that this should not be approved because I did not put much effort and just sort of rushed it. I'm actually working on a new WW3 map where I'll try to incorporate all of your constructive criticism. Everything you guys have said will help me with my new map; and when I finish it I will come back to fix this map up. Thanks again.
