Econocraft

Well I had an idea for a map and though I'd try it out. Keep in mind this map is testing an idea, I don't plan on making the next DotA or whatever.

The map has a very different economic situation than you are used to:
-Units have no food cost
-Gold cost of units drastically reduced
-Lumber cost of units increased
-Buildings have a food cost (1 for all except town halls which have 5)
-Buildings have increased lumber cost
-Buildings have an increased gold cost
-Units move incredibly slowly and attack incredibly slowly without a nearby commander, hero or building

New type of unit: Commander
The Commander type units are bought from your town halls. There are 3 ranks: ground/melee, mounted/ranged, and flying. They are a cheaper alternative to heroes for commanding troops, but the range of leadership is reduced. Buildings further have they range of leadership reduced (making heroes the best for controlling). All commanders of equal rank are the same i.e: the Orc and Human ground/melee commander is identical except from display. The flying commanders are different, Orc and Night Elf are melee, Human and Undead are ranged.

The map itself is a modified "Divide and Conquer". It should work so that Night Elves are Human are on the north half, Orcs and Undead on the south half. I have made it so the Alliance and Horde are set forces.

In the future I would like to introduce:
-A neutral 'super hero' that is fought over and converted. Kind of like a capture the flag. It'd have a slow walking speed but powerful spells and a huge cleave.
-Civilisation specifications: I want to make it so that Night Elves can spec into either High Elf or continue with the normal Night Elves once you get the max rank Tree of Life. Similarly I would do like renegade Humans (bandits or centaurs etc), Fel Orcs, and Nerubians.
However these are just plans at the moment, I wanted to get the basic idea of the map out first.

Update1: fixed player starting positions and races (hopefully).
Update2: heroes should no longer be effected by their own 'Leadership'.
Update3: Undead Acolytes can now place Blight. Trees will not last longer and regenerate after 5 minutes. You will now start with more lumber (equal to gold starting amount). All commanders are significantly cheaper (100,125,150).

Comment: You just edited blizzard map, idea is good but the way you did is is bad. I suggest aura and buffs or some other way over ability icon.

I tested this with humans only, the idea is good, but you should check it..

for example, commanders are not cheap alternatives, just got INSANE attack speed, like heroes, and it makes it much difficoult to micro -and creates sometimes unbalance too-

then, you should improve the starting lumber amount, or the start becomes too slow

some units got no attack speed limit (heroes, but also other units, like gyrocopters or mortar teams)

undead are unadvantaged, because while other races can build farms around the map, to get the ms/as bonus, undeads can't build out the cursed terrain

Re-tested:

Heroes still get leadership bonus;

Commanders' statistics should be fixed, (example: lv1 ud commander > lv2 ud commander), and they still got insane as;

some units should be checked, 'cause they got too much AS:

-all heroes,
-all commanders,
-summons: farseer's wolves, archmages' elementals, cript lord's beetles, skeleton warrior, skeleton mage,
-other units: gyrocopters, Tank's air attack, troll warriors (troll headhunter's upgrade), shamans, destroyers;

Avatar of revenge and demon hunter on metamorphosys doesn't get any leadership bonus;

Some units cost food:
-1 food: militia,
-2 food: troll warriors, druids of the talon on crow form, gargoyls in statue form,
-3 food: tanks with air attack, tauren mage in etereal form, spiders when use burrow,
-4 food: druids on bear form,
-5 food: destroyers, demon hunter on metamorphosys

Other:
-units I didn't mention in those with AS problems, sometimes attack too slow, and got too fast attack animation;

-Farms, Burrows, Ziggurats, MoonWells, shouldn't cost food, 'cause if you reach, for example, 40/40 food, you can't build other farms (Care: ziggurat should not cost food, but upgrading them to towers should)

-Accolites' ability 'Blight' does not work

-you shall replace the 'leadership' icon, it gives some problems with other buttons placement

Sorry I've been away and late to get onto these issues. Thanks for the help once again! Would you be able to further explain what is going wrong with some unit's AS and animations? (What you mentioned just under 'other') And also what problems with button placement are you experiencing?

with button placement, I mean that the "leadeship" button shoul be replaced, cause it fills (with the hero example) the spots of other abilities

now, what i wanted to say was that some units got too much AS when affected by Leadership, and other ones got less AS than they should, when affected by Leadership (they attack slower than they do without modifications) and the attack animation (too fast) makes the AS look even slower
