[Crash] Crash help please! Error Report Included.

It's from a map I'm working on (Warcraft Total War). Almost everything is else is working very will with just minor bug fixes needed but something keeps crashing the game later on. Usually happens after 30 some odd minutes but me and a friend both sat in a game that almost went on 50 min with no crash so it's not auto timed. At the bottom of the memory dump it says “Custom Triggers have been specified. Player-owned units have been placed.”

Here is the crash report. Please help (Also not sure if this is the right section for crashes) and I checked over the known crash thread I didn't see anything in there that I think I did in the map!

Did you check for leaks?

Memory Leaks

I guess now is the time to completely tune the triggers to be leak free. I ran it by the jass checker and some of the more expendable system had a lot of leaks. I will just remove them and focus on eliminating all memory leaks for essential triggers.

Ok after using the Jass Checker and removing tons of leaks the map is still crashing (The leaking triggers have been there the whole time and it only started crashing recently). The map is crashing at around 35 mintues and there is a event at 30 minutes and an event at 40 minutes but nothing at 35. A vast majority of my triggers are in use in other maps. And back in November when I uploaded my last file I remember playing a game that lasted almost 2 hours after everyone had left a player stayed and helped fine a bunch of bugs around the map. Now the game is essentially on a death timer!

I have put the map under considerable stress to try and emulate the problem. I have a test function that gives every player 10 kills every 3 seconds i left it running way longer than i have in the past and got each player up to 500 kills (Essentially a whole games worth) in a few minutes. Nothing happens.

People said they have seen a crash screen they have never seen before. I'm not sure if that has to do with the new patch. I even got a hold of one of the players who said the crash produced no error report. :( :(

Everything despite all its craziness everything the map works very well. But something is causing a mid-late game crash.

The map is otherwise fully functional I would really appreciate getting in touch with someone who can help remove this dreadful crash issue(which is the only thing holding the map back atm). I have Skype/Discord and if someone is willing to help look over the map it would be eternally appreciated.

I'm no bug expert but if a map crashes with the error massage "Not enough storage is available to process this command" then the first suspect is leaks, the second is map size. How big is it?

A quick search showed me this thread: Warcraft 3 Error+Crash. So perhaps you need to clean up disk space.

Should that fail I suggest you disable all triggers (or as many as possible while allowing some basic functionality) and see if the crash persists. If not, try enabling you triggers one section at a time to pinpoint the problem. If it still crashes then you need someone with who knows better.

The map is crashing for all players (my internet cut out in a game yesterday and I watched 2 friends get d/c'd at the same time). I'm in the process of cutting the map down to the essentials (everything im removing though was in the map back in Novemeber). The only thing I've done that is outside the norm of world editor editing is take advantage of the new size limit. The map is 8,629 and 7072 when optimized. I brought in about 10 more models, all approved.

That it's a delayed crash but doesn't have a trigger that corresponds with the crash time I feel l wondering if there any known issues that can cause a time delayed crash?

This is literally the biggest thing holding the map back though, balance, gameplay, and content are all in very good shape...up until the crash.



EDIT: and it is confirmed I got lucky with my 1 crash report but the map is not producing a crash report otherwise...............:(

your problem laying somewhere in object database and it could be anything, starting from values ending with models. your code most likely have nothing to do with that at all
After the size increase i just added about 10 more models all approved (one pending) from the hive. I'm gonna kick them out for now and see if that helps. It barely bumped me over the old 8mb limit. I'm not sure why it's not producing crash reports for people and someones exact quote was they saw an error they hadnt seen in 13 years of playing wc3! I am all for other suggestions if anyone has any more ideas!

Edit: Again when I uploaded some betas back in november I had no problem playing the map for well over an hour with no crash!

The crash report you submitted was for WorldEdit?! An old version, 1.21, at that...

I do not think that is the correct crash report as nothing was being played and it was almost certainly a single user as WorldEdit does not use network.
Hmm. Unfortunately im about to head into work. Ill double check when i get home but that crash is from monday night the 19th and was what showed up when i first encountered the crash. Ive talked with other players to try and get the crash log but it isnt producing one!

I left the game running while at work to see what happens. Ill let you guys know and double check the crash logs when i get home!

Alrighty! So couple interesting updates. I've pruned away quite a bit of triggers and its still crashing. As mentioned in my previous post I let the game run while I went to work and lo and behold no crash.

Turn 374 is wayyyyy longer than any real game will ever take but there was no player activity.

That was my old file from yesterday, today I managed to prune more stuff away and attempt to not crash again and it still crashed at around turn 35 ish.

This is the error screen that pops up.

So its not crashing in a 6 hr 15 minute single player run but it seems to be crashing between turn 30-40 on multiplayer. Any ideas? Some of the last things I removed were what I thought was doing it. :p

Such crashes can happen if there are a lot of trigger leaks. Be aware of handle id leaks caused by some bj function, they are not obvious.

Without any kind of log or being Blizzard we cannot help pin the exact cause of the crash. If you can somehow get a replay with the same crash then maybe it can be looked into.

I've smoked out and removed crashes before. I wonder how I got the crash text on Monday though...that definitely is from my first crash from the map. I may have unchecked the send to blizzard box and it made the document then?

Plus the fact that it will work just fine if left alone but crashes on multiplayer is also baffling. My triggers are in use in other maps that don't have this problem (although I have not played them since the new patch).

fucking 1.27b crash reporter gives no info whatsoever.
try downgrade to 1.27a or 1.26 and use UnrealLoader [Universal kLoader] this tool to run few wc3 to see if it will crash in multiplayer
this will confirm it's non- or patch-related issue
I think it may be caused by player activity rather than just having multiple people in game. So if it's cause by a Leak it would be triggers that relate to player activity. I would have to pvp myself with 12 players lol.

Not all crashes in WC3 produce an error report.

Theres not a list anywhere of those types of crashes by chance are there?

I've had a bad crashing bug in my map before. I also thought it was trigger-related because it always happened very late in the game (30-35 minutes in with ~40 min game time if you do not lose early).

It ended up being an object editor problem. A custom arua I was using placed a buff on enemies and a slowing spell also had the same buff (used as part of an orb effect). Putting both buffs with different effects / different types of buffs (one is aura, one is duration buff) causes the game to crash. It just happened that the two items you needed to have to get both these effects in a single game were only affordable / worth getting at this late part of the game. I also tried stress testing my map with some crazy cheat codes added to maximize the amount of triggers running and there was still no problem.

Anyway, I suggest looking for specific things happening in the games before it crashes. Try to get it to crash in single player so you can rule out other problems. It could just be that it is more likely to hit crashing conditions in multiplayer since other people are doing things as well. However, I guess it could also be some faulty code that is only used in multiplayer.

I'll do an object editor shake down. I had that exact problem in a small project I made howl of terror was overwriting an aura and when the howl would end the map would crash lol. Because of that I've been careful about buffs and all that jazz but perhaps I missed something.

One thing I did between november and now thats kind of fancy was previously every hero had an aura that can level. I did the whole hidden spell book thing to make room for another spell and made the hidden auras improve on a upgrade that goes off at 200/400/600 kills. I'm fairly positive I did it all correctly according to the hidden spell book guide but perhaps there is some error with doing it like that (theres no book within book loops). But that they upgrade based on kills that would be in line with why it crashes with player activity. I'll wipe the books off the heroes and try again tonight after work. Everything else I've added in the map since November is pretty standard stuff within the Genre (Dark Age of Warcraft/Azeroth Wars style).

As I have mentioned to some others I am also toying with a reboot file where I wiped units, abilities, imports, and upgrades. There was so much left over data and duplicates of the same spells on different heroes when I was trying different things out developing the map. It shouldn't take me long to have a skeleton of the map in a new file that could potentially have about 600 less custom units. :) I still would like to try and salvage this file though.
