Warcraft 3 Item Creator v3.0.4

Reactions: RCS12 and Devine
This tool originates from here

Creates professional and symmetric tooltips, perfect if you have a lot of items that needs to have the same apperance, but you don't want to spend hours of perfecting the tooltips manually. Easy to use, and highly customizable.

Screenshot of the tool in action can be found here.

For everyone having Vista and problems with "RIGHTX32.OCX" try the following:
http://www.hiveworkshop.com/forums/f478/warcraft-3-item-creater-registering-118743/

If that fails try this:

# Download RICHTX32.OCX.

# Copy the new version to the WINDOWS\SYSTEM32 directory on your C: drive

# Using your mouse, click on the "Start" button and then click on "Run".

# Type the following command to register this library file (You must have adminitrator rights):

regsvr32 \windows\system32\RICHTX32.OCX

# You should see a message saying "DllRegisterServer ... succeeded"

# You can also try to run the program as an "XP Application" (Right Click->Properties->Compatibility)

I downloaded this from his website and it works really good, it's definately a very useful tool. 10/10 (Combined with color picker to get more custom colors, this is a godlike tool! (For people who make RPG's anyways (me)))

Thats pretty sick, I often get really irritated by the tooltips for items and units, you gotta constantly check and test that the words are spaced out correctly. I wonder if there was a way to edit tooltips for units, abilities, and pretty much anything that uses a tooltip for warcraft? (and I mean more efficiently, like with a tool similar to this)

Very useful, however before I even saw this I had a thought along the same lines.

I built a rather unprofessional looking version in about 10 minutes. While you could argue yours has a greater range of functionality, looks better, and is more user friendly (all of which is correct) I built mine to handle my specific map. (Which is why it is in no way meant to be used by the public...)

All in all, the only thing this is missing, is the ability to more heavily customize output. Possibly building lists of words which could be integrated into option boxes and checkboxes. (So say I was building a bunch of items, and wanted the first thing in the tooltip to be a classification. It would be nice to be able to quickly add a bunch of option boxes which I could just click to select the rarity)
Yes, I know, you already have a built in provision for rarity/type. But that was just an example.

Oh by the way, I built mine in VB to.

Woo VB YEAH

Heh, I'm workin on an RPG in VB, which will probably come out retarded, but with the help of some Photoshopped pictures it should look nice :), with some effects based off the timer

Back to topic - How could you create something like this in VB that could affect the texts in wc3???

I've been meaning to do this for a while, so I finally spent 20 minutes and did it. I built something you can use to preview generated tooltips! I just finished it so its bound to have bugs, its amazingly simple. You put the tooltip in the left, and the text to the right is the preview.

If you get a weird error its because you need at least .net framework 2. If it still complains, try hunting for 3. The current one is compiled in VB express 2008. I'm going to transfer and compile the code in VB6 as will. The source code has been posted as will. Integration of this kind of thing into the tooltip generator would be most advantageous.

--Got vb6 versions up.

Note: If your lost what to download, just download Tooltip Display.zip. If that errors try the vb6 version. If that errors as will, check that your computer is up to date.

I was kind of rushed on the vb6 version so if anyone spots any problems, tell me.

Edit: Fixed several small bugs involving coloring which (funny enough) only effected the Vb.net 2008 version.
Edit again:Fixed a bug I thought I had fixed before...

Wait a sec.... does the n in |n| in the preview mean warcraft will create something similar to ENTER??

Because I have been out of my mind trying to constantly line up all of the texts in the tooltips without using ENTER

[Does "some text"|n"somemore text" =

"some text"
"somemore text"

Rather than doing it like this:

"some text" (enough spaces to make a new line) "somemore text"]

EDIT

About my post before, wow I didn't even realize what this does ><, all it does is compiles your text into a big mess of text that WC can read, and then you post the text into it manually

Ok, nvm about the units mod, THIS IS AWESOME I LOVE YOU

It appears you figured it out, but just in case, you are correct.
|n = {enter}
|r = {end of color}
|c[6 digits of hex] = color

Yes, it does.
And you also can use Ctrl+Enter.

Back to topic:
This tool can automatically fill the lines of an unit on World Editor? I can't figure its funcionality.

It works like this: You add in various details of an item. Then it builds a pre-color coded (and formated) tooltip for you. Then you can paste the output into your tooltip-extended.

Your feedback is greatly appreciated.
I've actually been thinking of doing something like this for a v3.0, but since I've been rather busy lately I haven't got around to do this yet. But my goal is to do this whenever I get some time over.

Also, the tool you posted a few replys below looks awesome. Something similar to that was also planned for v3.0 ;)

Just a quick note, I hate complex interfaces with phrases I do not normally use

An extremely useful little addition to it would be like a little line-by-line editor, you choose a color (or pick it from 255, 255, 255), and then type the lines text, hit enter, and it is displayed in the output

Really simple thing, I am too lazy to do it at the moment, I will probably do it later for myself, but yeah that could be a really nice addition, if somebody wants to jump a little out of the format you had already provided

Offtopic - I don't see how green could be blues enemy???

Offtopic - Hmm, I suppose wisdom is a blue thing, and instinct is a green thing, but I'm not sure those are opposites, instinct is kind of doing something without thought, and wisdom is deep thought, so I guess they would be opposites.... but is that enough to be enemies???

I can see aggression vs. wisdom/holding back (red vs. blue) easily

kk thnx for that. I am already seeing that its a little bit more useful than before, though I could have used the warcraft 3 model editor and access the text coloring program within it. but then again, I wouldnt get the same shade everytime. so thnx

Ahh, good old VB6. It took me about 5 minutes to figure out how to properly register richtx32.ocx on my new vista. If anyone else has this problem, pm me and I'll walk you through the simple process.

Good update, I've been using this recently for my map.

ok this is extremely simple. thnx for making this. I am using it for items as well as colored tooltips and names for my units. its great. and when I said about the model editor, I meant it like this, (easier to explain if u got it.). open the model editor and click on "Extras" button, then click "Colored Text". from there u can make colored text as well as multi colored text. I will use that for my custom heroes and normal text for other heroes. Just so everyone knows, this is great program (I dont know if I said that already, but I cant be f*cked looking up to find out. good luck, and keep making good programs.

there is some file missing ... it sais when i try to generate "RIGHTX32.OCX" is missing ... its prety annoying

It appears you are missing the RICHTX32.OCX library.
You can download it here: http://www.ascentive.com/support/new/images/lib/RICHTX32.OCX
And put it in to your system32 folder (...\windows\system32\RICHTX32.OCX).

picture preview is blurry cant make much of it
Read the description, there's a link to a better quality screenshot there.
