I dont know how ghosty you want to make it exactly.
1,The easiest thing would be to change the unit's vertex coloring(using a trigger) maybe make it a little bit transparent and blue.
2.A little bit harder would be to export the model open it up with magos and change the peasant's material to addative.
3.The hardest thing I can think of is KhaosMachine's suggestion.
However as a end result the best looking thing would probably be his suggestion.
Easiest and possible best way to do this is mentioned above via triggering and change the transparency exporting and changing the model/skin would give a better overall look but would take more room in your map and it requires modelling and skinning knowledge
With changing the vertex colours - as for what value you should be using, I'd recommend 70-80% transparency for a ghost, Then maybe attach some special effects to the origin of the unit for emphasis. It'd look pretty ghostly
