Texturing Models (HelP)

Hey I have made a model and it imports fine and all but I want to texture it. what would be the best way to texture this model (program and stuff) it doesn't have a movement animation so its a realy simple model. For the texture I just want it to be a grey colour with some team colour in it so you can tell whos it is.

id use photoshop. (if i had it T_T, gimp works too)

then when you get the UV map, set it to the Z face, so you can just put it on the document, and add details that will be congruent on both sides
