Is this for a game? If so then post ingame screen shots - lets see what the map looks like AS the game, not as a zoomed out world editor map.

Use manage attachments and attach images here as Jpeg.

If you do not want this map please may I have it?

Why? because the bare bones of the terrain work - and I can think of at least three projects where that terrain is a good place to start.

As a start this map is great - barren yes, but it is a start.

I play WOW - Arathi Basin is 'empty' with a few rocks and a few trees so you are on the 'right track' for achieving that goal.

You have done the really hard part, raising and painting the terrain hills that alone takes considerable amount of time and obviously you used the single point terrain brush to 'paint' all of those hills.

This is not a bad map - unfinished perhaps - but it is not bad at all.

As a game it might work as is - I don't know your link to 'test' it doesn't work.

If not then use shrubbery, rock chunks, rocks, river rushes (the grassy looking ones not the cattail looking ones) to fill in the bareness.

Lastly - it doesn't matter what others like - people are fickle, you do what YOU like - you are the artist, you are the 'god' of that map its ultimately what you like.

Edit: I found the map: Can you upload an unprotected version? If you are scared that the map will be ripped off, delete most of the triggers (which in this case is perhaps the matter of consequence). I will be more than happy to play around with the terrain aspect, try a few different doodad applications and see if we can get that map to work better for you.

Ok, I got your map in the mail, sent a quick reply.

I have it open in World editor now.

I have a copy of the Ultimate Terrainer's Map I could add a couple three doodads like different trees. Do you need the trees to be harvestable - if so then I will stick with default trees, if not then I will try to dig up something that harkens to Arathi Basin.

I'm afraid that I will be removing most of your map edge pathing blockers. I will make a larger blocker for around the edge (base of the surrounding hills) Do you want pathing to be just ground around the map, or do you want to block both air and ground?

I will also use the WEU to increase the number of texture tiles for the terrain - You will still be able to open the map in the regular world editor.

I'm gonna remove the cliffs, rework the rivers and bodies of water. I will lower the water areas just enough to block walking units, but they will have smoother shores.

I will not tamper with the triggers and will built around the regions as you have them placed.

Again, give me a few days to tinker and toil. Hills are my 'specialty' - at the very least I love to paint and make hills look pretty.

ok this is very nice ;)

it would be really great if you can make the cliffs and the water and trees etc like in the screenshots:thumbs_up: if you want to make that for me :)

so make it like you want (or make it that it looks like the screenshots....this would be the best i think :) and if you have played to map you maby have seen that it doesn't match with the minimap:sad: so if it's possible and if you want to make it you can also make it that the map match more with the minimap and pls don't make the filesize to high^^...) and then send it to me back :)

you don't have to block flying units ;) just walking by the hills ;)

:)thank you

I know you like the Wow Arathi Basin 'look'. However you have a lot of customized icons, customized entry screen and of course the custom mini-map.

Your version used 3.321 Mb mine currently used 3.361Mb - there is most likely not enough data space for things like a custom terrain set such as one would find in say the high res pack. While that terrain set would look more like Arathi Basin, I fear that it would put things over the limit.

Also I do not want to use up all of your file space, thus I did not import any custom models.

I am 'stuck' using default terrain tiles and what models you have.

I did get rid of all of the cliffs. I spent a better part of this map editing lowering the cliff height across the map. Due to that I had to remake all of the water. This allowed me to make higher hills.

I removed most of the pathing blockers you used, making a custom 'extra large' one so we use less to cover more area.

I only moved the lumber mill a wee bit, I moved the player start taverns in, restored a shadowy boarder. Resized and equalized the revive regions and made the statue, spirit and the energy fields all line up nicely.

This is to say that the mini-map still does not match up with the game map.

I did change the horde and alliance gates, removed the pathing blockers and used a much lowered (thus hidden) stone gate. I changed the triggers to remove the gates.

I also added a camera trigger, one that zooms the camera out for all players every 20 seconds. You made all of the structures so large that in game one misses the whole picture - with the camera set out a wee bit more these structures are now appreciated more.

Below are a few editor screen shots. Mind most of this will not be even recognizable in the game.

No it is not finished, this is the 'rough draft' if you will. I am only pausing here to get your feed back on it.

ok the filesize is ok ;)......it's not so important if the minimap match 100% with the game map i think :) so it's good enough^^

ok the terrain looks really great to me:thumbs_up:...i love it :)^^

i can'T wait playing on this terrain :) pls keep up that work^^ :) +rep for your work at this time ;)

Hey there!

just wondering, do you want players to be able to 'hide' inside of buildings?

If I recall correctly some of the structures in WOW's arena one can 'hide' in or on the other side doing a 'sneak' attack of the opposing force. They don't see you, until you attack.... heh.

I could make the structures like the black smith and the lumber mill open on the inside, a player can put their unit inside and wait for the opposing team to come in and do a 'sneak attack'.

That terraining looks pretty great for playable map, but shouldn't the farm be bit further away from the base gates? In WoW atleast, if I recall correctly, it took a little run from base to farm, it was not right in front of it.

Almii sent me an unprotected version of the map that is uploaded currently here. He decided where he wanted his bases (farm, mine, lumber mill, blah). I only moved a few things slightly (Around 500 on the map, or one large grid square) for terrain purposes.

He is using tons of custom icons, load screen, mini map in the way of data - the map is pushing the size limit for hosting and uploading/downloading.

I think the reality is that the map should be wider than it is tall.

Currently the map itself is 160 x 160. It probably should be 160 (north to south) by 224 east to west - however that means more doodads and stuff. The map size is 3.397 MB as it stands.

Almii's Avatar is the mini-map from WOW Arathi Basin - its clearly wider than taller with the playable area at a diagonal.

I asked him if he wanted me to move the 'bases' around, he seemed pleased with where they are and the direction the map is going terrain wise. Although the map does not match up with the WOW mini-map he is using.

Perhaps he will reconsider moving of bases now that someone else has mentioned it.

Thanks for your input - much appreciated.

*Almii: I wouldn't mind moving things a round !!!

the terrain is great now.....and i don't want to change things.....because 1) i'm bad at terrainin^^...2) the bases are ok....i don't think you wanted to rework the terrain to bring them on there position ;) also i thing it's ok so and so i don't will change this.....the map isn't 100% AB so it's not needed at this time i think:wink:

i will upload the map at this week maby at saturday ;)

and the mini-map doesn't match...but i also won't to change this because it's to much work....i think the map is ok at her status right now....and the terrain really great:thumbs_up:
