Is it possible to change a terrain permanently like when someone cast a spell and the terrain around the caster changes/ target point of ability casted/ a unit walks and leaves a trail of snow behind?
There are natives to change terrain. They can even load terrain types not placed on your map. Be warned though that atempting to load a new terrain type when all terrain slots are full will cause it to randomly choose a terrain type from those loaded and use that instead. Once terrain types have been loaded using the native, they can not be unloaded meaning it is important you do not use too many diverse types (try and stick to what is in your map already for safety).
You can also see how much tile sets you are using and check how much more you can use in advanced ---> modify tileset... Usually you can add one extra tile texture into your map and you can make your own custom tile set as well . Once you've used the max tile set(as said) the next different tile set will be set as a random current one.
