Prologue
Fate... Fate is a strange thing. It can drag you down, take you so deep that you think you will never get back up. It can make you lose all hope, it can make you longing for death. It makes you feel despair and takes away all hope... and then, it pulls you back up. It gives you hope and strength, it makes you strong and lifts you higher. It takes away all your fear and sorrow.
As so many others, I to am bound to fate, I live knowing that my destiny is set, or so it has been told to me. Ever since I was born I have been taught that a mans destiny is decided upon birth. I have never questioned that, and I never though I would, I never even had a reason to. My life was good, I was born in a wealthy family and had everything I desired. Loving parents, caring siblings, a beautiful house on the country side and the best thing off all, there was peace.
My parents would often tell me stories of the old world and how it was destroyed, It was one of my favorite stories. It was about my Great great grandfather and how he saved our people from death by sacrificing himself. It would make me forget everything else and fill me with pride, pride for my Great great grandfather. Every time after hearing the story I would go out in the woods and act as if I was him.
Back then I would never have imagined that one day I would find myself in the middle of one such story, but here I am. And so many things have changed, now that I think back on that story I look at it differently, my chest still fills whit pride, but also whit sadness. The horrors that my Great great grandfather would have endured... I can clearly imagine them now, as I found myself facing the same horrors as him. When I was young I would have lounged for a life full of adventure, I would have longed to be a hero, but now... Now I just want my old life back, now I just want this nightmare to end.
And it all started exactly ten years ago, at my twentieth birthday.
