If i have to i'll just put some buildings in a corner of the map and put the talent setup in there if i have to.

I did a system where if a hero uses a Spend Talent Points ability a selectable locust (no model building with .1 selection and scaling size) is created and automatically selected via trigger, wherein you can buy units or upgrades that increase talents. Not very flashy but simple and effective. And make sure the unit is removed when unselected.
