Hey im like new im making my own RPG and I found a nice sword

Only I cant add it to my Human or Child I made a RPG where they both have armour and weapons on by picking up items.
So I make a new Ability put in "Target Mithril Sword"
Then I make my item and I equip it and it doesnt work ..
Ive already got 2 other items and armour and a bow they both work fine what did I do wrong ?? (Btw Its hard to find armour for a child ^^ )
Well if some1 can help me I cant continue till it works coz that sword is nice and I need it to work before I can continue
