Nope, afaik the minimap image can't be modified in game.

It is not possible to modify the minimap image directly during the game. It is possible to modify it to some extent by overlaying stuff on it however this is likely quite limited.

Hm. Too bad.
I guess the user must live with a rather plain and uninspiring minimap. It adds to the randomness I suppose.
