I believe your only option to change the displayed gold cost would be to have dummy versions of the items to buy that you replace with the real item with a trigger when the unit buys them. You could also just return the difference in gold to the player with a trigger or take extra gold (refund as necessary if their current amount is insufficient) but it wouldn't display as a different gold cost on the icon.
