OK, finished watching the first episode on space. They cut it short from 3 hours to 2 so we would have something to watch next friday.

ATM, life support is still failing. The ship has some sort of mechanism that makes it aware of the crew's needs & it stops and opens up Stargates to planets that have what they need.

I wana see more!!!!!111:cry::mwahaha:

The stargate dosen't suck as much as the first 2. It's more of a BSG, Stargate, Star Trek Voyager combined series

Ugh... the first episode of SGU sucked. It felt more like some gay drama than a Stargate episode. SG-1 was awesome because of O'Neill's humour, Carter's awesomeness, Teal'c's badassery and Jackson's, um, well forget about Jackson but he was cool in his own little way. Atlantis was awesome because of McKay and Sheppard's attitudes.

Now, SGU seems to take a whole different approach to things, at least in the first episode. The whole setting is different: everything is dark, and the camera angles/positions make for incredibly tense scenes. I've got a feeling that SGU will be more of a dramafest than a sci-fi show, and will never be up to par with the previous Stargates in being hilarious as well.

Indeed. One of the producers said that it would have more humour to make up for the drama.

Yeah... right. I can barely hold my laughter.

Also, he claimed that it would focus more on character development (i.e. character DRAMAFESTS) rather than actual exploration and adventure through the Stargate. If you ask me, they should have just changed the name of the show. By making the show more mainstream and likable to people who usually hate sci-fi (i.e. faggots), I think they're actually going to lose a lot of regular SG fans.

SHORT VERSION: I don't like stargate SGU, it looks completely retarded....

Well fuck... it finally happened.... The godamned media made quite the abomination here. SGU is pretty much what happens when greedy corporations strip down a tv series based on a movie (case in point, stargate SG-1), then make it have unprotected lovemakin with battlestar galactica, except battlestar galactica was diagnosed with diabetes and has 3 types of cancer. The child (case in point SGU) was born physically and mentally "RWETAWTED" due to BSG's heavy drinking and drug use during bastard child-pregnancy. LOOK AT WHAT YOUR GREEDY MEDIA HAS WROUGHT! And we have only society to blame.

this is exactly the kind of bull that is clogging up the airways nowadays. It takes a "not so original idea" then adds every cliche in the book, makes it gratuitously violent and sex-filled, beats it over the head with a club and stuffs drama up it's poophole.

/me rages some more

I actually rather liked stargate sg-1, richard dean anderson was what made the show great. And i'll just bet every penny i have that in the series they'll try to be edgy by having the characters saying some weird cuss word to punctuate every fucking sentence like BSG does with "frak". it's like the word FUCK isnt good enough for them.

.... /me is done

I completely agree with anarchian. Despite being thought of as sci-fi shows, SG-1 and Atlantis definitely had a huge comedic aspect. RDA was a beast for SG-1, and Hewlett/Flanigan made Atlantis pretty funny too.

I actually liked the original Stargate movie, but if SG-1 had kept the movie O'Neil, then I definitely wouldn't have liked the series as much. RDA ftw <3. And it looks as though SGU is even lower than that standing, but hey what was expected? Sure looks like it's going to appeal to the larger crowd -> a happy SyFy.

Ok, some people hate it some like it. yes it has its bad points, it's also different from the original SG's like atlantes and 1 witch makes it "unique" in the SG franchise. it's quite similar to BSG, voyager, and another show i cant think of atm.

Pros;
Cool new special effects.
Some of the characters are intriguing.
The ship looks cool, huge, and it has a nice story.

Cons;
The sex, what if kid's are watching this?!?
No Dean Anderson =(
Looking like a BSG rip with an SG theme.

i dont see the "cool new special effects" as much of a pro in it's favor. It's just a fact, if SG-1 was made NOW then im sure the special effects would blow my mind as well. The storyline is a complete copypasta/hack'n'slash of startrek voyager and battlestar galactica. the only difference is that they arrive ON the ship via stargate. I'll bet most of the characters are giant stereotypes as well with drama gravy slathered all over it to hide the fact that its the same thing you see every time. the "strong" woman love interest who is somewhat tomboy but not quite butch. the wise-cracking often sarcastic "smarter than they act" leader soldier (love interest counterpart) the brainy tech guy who somehow has a love interest as well. and of course the "outsider" who is also a badass and sometimes not accepted but sometimes is accepted

Oh, you mean the gritty, dark, shitty effect they plastered on every scene?

You mean one of the characters? And not very much?

Probably not the best reason you could have given there.

I agree completely here.
