I thought i might include my favorite warcraft community in my current map, it is my first serious project that i will release, however it is not my first map.

The game is set in an unnamed (so far) coastal land with cities and towns scattered across it, each one of these are connected by roads, which come into use later. There are no mythological units, there are only humans but there is a strong implication of Norse mythology in many aspects and descriptions.

The game is much like King Leopold's works in which you buy a base and it spawns units, you then fight or ally your neighbors. Me and my cousin are great fans of these games on occasion but always thought they were missing something. This is what inspired me to create Roads to Valhalla and the idea for a key feature. You still get bounty from kills and the like however you get gold from trade routes. By trade im not talking anything else you may have in other games but i am talking about caravans that travel to adjacent towns that you control via roads. These caravans can be ransacked for a high bounty so control of your towns and roads is a requirement and this combats the lamers that just sit there all game massing their units, they need to keep active. Caravans aren't controlled by the players who own them either, they just move constantly through battle if need be.

There are 5 tiers per base and cost about one third of the bases original cost. Obviously upgrading your base is rather beneficial but the trade encourages control of more than one base. Each base has the same tier theme and goes as follows:
  1. Infantry
  2. Ranged
  3. Cavalry
  4. Specialist
  5. Artillery
Each bases spawns for these tiers are different and each have their own advantages, disadvantages and abilities. The units range from farmers with scythes all the way to cannibals and if used strategically can win the game.

I have a custom armor and attack scheme too, instead of the standard warcraft 3 one. The scheme goes as follows:
Chopping Defeats Light Armor
Piercing Defeats Light and Medium Armor
Crushing Defeats Heavy Armor and Buildings
Fire is almost chaos damage however deals a small bonus to Light Armor

There are of course more specific relationships between these armor and damage types. Instead of the usual armor upgrade as well like warcraft, I have modified this too. this goes as follows:
Light Armor upgrades have a spiked barricades effect called "Counter Attack"
Medium Armor get the standard defense bonus
Heavy Armor gets a damage block effect
Constructions (buildings and mechanical units) get a bonus to health.

The character that you start with and purchase bases with is called a "Hero" and although if he dies you lose, he is a valuable unit in battle. The hero features a large hammer with crushing damage and heavy armor which are good as heavy armor and crushing damage can be rather rare early game. The hero levels and has Evasion, Bash and Divine Shield abilities and Endurance Aura as an 'ulti' (beefed up a little bit).

The terrain is limited as the map size is epic but I have not gone lazy. The bases look nice and some of them feature walkable towers/vantage points. As it is loosely viking based it is using Northrend/Lordaeron Winter tiles, Lighting, Environment and doodads.

As far as completion goes I cannot say for sure but I'm roughly estimating between 30% - 45%done for Beta version 1.2 which will be fully playable, with hopefully the majority of the features.

project is abandoned due to lack of interest. (not your fault, just no players = no game)
