How to use the "Tree Of Life Upgrade" ability - dynamic attachments that can be changed with triggers?​


So for one of my projects it would be immensely useful if I could give an ability based on "Tree of Life Upgarde Ability" to one of my units, and then modify the attachment with triggers as needed, that is to say, change it to display "Upgrade First", "Upgrade Second".

That would be a lot more efficient than just making literally hundreds of attachment abilities and import hundreds of attachment models. If I could have one attachment model with upgrade first, second, third etc. animations, one attachment ability and one target unit type, that would be awesome.

At least two issues with that, as I can tell so far:

1) Tree Of Life Upgrade Ability seems to work with the "Required Animation Names - Attachments" field in the Editor, and in turn it looks like that cannot be accessed by triggers or the ability editor

2) Tree Of Life Upgrade Ability itself, much like Locust, cannot be accessed in the ability editor, to study and modify.

Any way I can make the Tree Of Life Upgrade Ability, or something similar, work for me as intended?
