So I'm sure this forum has seen enough posts about how to install etc, but let me assure you I've looked at several guides from google, one from this site. Please forgive me thickheadedness.

Although I'd like to look at models at some point, right now it's just skins I'm interested in.

So far I've figured out that you download a skin, get a .blp file and save it to some location. Then you open world editor, load import manager and import the .blp. Then you change the adress to for example units\NightElf\Shandris\Shandris.blp. Then you load object manager, find Shandris among units, open her model and check the import box and add/write the right address.

I have two problems though. Firstly, the import area of a model I choose in object manager is "greyed over" and can't be selected, so I can't modify anything there.

Secondly, how the hell do I save this so that it affects the campaign? It seems it wants me to save it as a custom map or something, and I have no idea how to save it properly. At first the fact that this isn't mentioned in the guides I read made me think it's only for custom maps, projects etc, but the fact that there's plenty of skins affecting for example minor characters like Shandris makes me think otherwise.

So, can anyone tell me how to save an imported skin into the campaign, so that I can for example meet a re-skinned Shandris in the Night Elf campaign, or play with female orcs as Thrall? Also wondering about the fact that I can't do anything with the import area while using object manager.

Heyho drome i think yoi cant put it in the campaign by using the import manager.
The import manager is used to import skins models etc. for just this map you use the import manager with.

As i know you cant select a skin in import menu in object editor.it saves it automaticlly to the unit gave the path.

There is a trick however, that if you import the skins and models to a campaign file, you wont have to use the same crap over and over again in the maps (and ultimately decreasing the gross filesize). This is possible through the campaign editor.
But yes, you have to put the stuff in the import manager, and save it as the path of the model. Like, if you want to change the skin of the unit Ghoul, then you would import the skin and change its path to units/Undead/Ghoul/Ghoul.blp. And it will automatically change the skin, and it is possible for any unit.. There isn't any object editor to this. The object editor is mainly for model changes/additions/subtractions, and tooltips.

If you want to alter the textures in the official game, you'd have to alter the .mpq-files as far as I am aware, and that can be risky and hard to revoke (well, all you have to do is reinstall I guess). There's probably some guides out there on how to do it.

doing that would be very stupid. As it could ruin the mpq files, and lead you to most likely have to reinstall, if it breaks or if you can't change it back. just extract the campaign files using magos and apply the skin onto the extracted campaign. Its still playable, but it would just have to be in the custom campaign section.
