alright, so thx to Area i just hooked myself up with 3ds Max 6 and am EXTREMELY interested in making some models. can anyone give me some tips on keeping models sizes LOW. also, how does one bind skins to models? also, how does one convert mds to mdx and mdl?
also, no i think that covers all my questions for now. no wait, how does one make actual swords, etc? i want to make them small, but interesting. i can figure out how to make a block, but that isnt very refined. a footman, etc is not a block, so if anyone can let me know how to make units with some detail let me know. ok, thx :D

Make models which aren't to hard for you now, like converintg some standard and extended primitives. I use convert to polygon option and move, scale the vertex, extrude and bevel the selected faces.

In the viewport press '7' to have a poly counter which checks numbers of selected models(keep it lower than a 1000). Try all of the edit poligon tools available in the rollouts.

That's all I can say for now.
