'Watcher in the Darkness'
The return to the city was done in silence. When Terentian and Nova reached the entrance to the underground sanctuary, they stopped and looked around the night street. Something was wrong. There were no guards and no one at the entrance. Nova took a step forward, but he stopped her and shook his head.
'I have to go. Stand here and wait' he said and entered the darkness. Slowly, he went through the empty dark tunnels. Something was wrong.
Then, at last he entered the main hall of the sanctuary, the temple room. Like the rest of the rooms, it was empty and dark, with no signs of struggle.
Suddenly, Terentian stopped still. He could see the darkness change, as if it was no longer the absense of light, but it's polar opposite. The air became confinding and thick, as if it was a fluid. Sounds became muffled... he slowly turned around, unable to understand it. And then he saw them.
They came out from behind the columns and stone monuments. Concealed in the shadow that was now one with them they stepped forth with what should has been their eyes glowing white! He could see them, standing there, watching him and the air was filled by dark whispers once more, as if he was in the cell under the castle, tornmented by the visions brought in his mind like sharp ice-cold knives! It was the same madness that he felt and it was that madness that brought him through all of this! He thought he had the power to change what they showed him but he could only watch them take what is their, helplessly, unable to prevent the nightmares that have flashed before his eyes every night!
His mind was still there, in that cell, with walls covered in strange forboding runes and signs, but his body was running away from those who gloomed over the sunlit lands for millenia. He ran and ran, through dark corridors, until he ran out into the street, blinded for a second by the moonlight. Nova jumped next to him and the only thing he could tell her before passing out was...
Run.
