Other Option to remove reactions from news feed?

I've tried following a few people, but whenever I go to my news feed, it's just a big stream of everything they've reacted to.

I was more interested in following people so that I could find out when they've posted a new resource, or maaaybe a new thread.

Having a way to customize/toggle what kinds of things are in your news feed would make following a lot more useful to me.

I was wondering about customizing this feed that's dedicated to who you follow (I assume this feed is the only function of following):
