[General] Odd idеa of upgrading an item

Hello everyone, because now I have no PC I was wondering how can I make the process of upgrading an item easier. I think it will be easier to click on it, but how to naturally pay for it? Maybe with the morphing ability of the destroyer it will work and display the price?
Can I use the gold requirment without forcing the unit to morph?

there is an ability called charge gold and lumber or something like that. It costs gold/lumber to cast.
I don't know how exactly it would be displayed in combination with an item though.
