AFAIK, there is no limit... though custom animations (those not using names recognized by wc3), will need to be triggered (via ID number I think) in order for it to work...
Attack - composes of 1 and 2 but can still go beyond if the user wishes to name the following animation to "Attack 3, 4" and so on...
Birth
Death
Decay
Dissipate
Morph
Spell
Stand
Walk
These are just the basics and there could be more complicated animations depending on how much the model has. View it on a Model Editor and you will see the amount of animations it has.
To answer your question, there is no maximum AFAIK.
