Northrend RPG is a role-playing story-based adventure map for solo and co-op play with up to 3 players. The game offers 9 unique characters, each with their own backstory and individual quests. Story​

Northrend RPG takes place after Sylvanas, leader of the Forsaken faction, seized the former capital of Lordaeron. Continuing her war against the Lich King Ner'zhul and his servant Arthas, Sylvanas sends her agents to Northrend to prepare the ground for a full-scale invasion by the Forsaken forces.


Game Features​

  • Full optimization for both Classic SD versions (1.26–1.31) and the newest Classic HD and Reforged HD patches (1.32–2.0+).
  • Over 20 diverse missions, with approximately 7 hours of gameplay. Missions range from traditional escort and boss-killing missions to unconventional tasks like hijacking, and participating in gladiatorial battles.
  • 9 unique heroes, each with 12 non-standard abilities, their own variants of dialogue, and individual gameplay missions.
  • Unconventional mechanics for leveling up, damage dealing, loot collection, reputation management, and hiring mercenaries. These mechanics maintain the spirit of the original Warcraft III while also offering a fresh, exciting experience.

HEROES:
  • Heroes now gain 1 attribute point per level, which can be distributed into Strength, Agility, or Intelligence. Base stat gains per level have been reduced accordingly.
  • “Hero Information” has been moved to a new submenu, “Information and Statistics.” It also includes a new “Expedition Statistics” panel showing current difficulty, monster resistance (auto-scaling), and key values used in final rank calculation.
  • Mountain Champion: Talent “Elemental Resistance” now grants +15% damage vs. elemental units from auto-attacks and “Shocking Blow,” and a permanent +1 DEF.
  • Grenadier: Ability “Detonator” now allows immediate detonation of selected explosive barrels.
  • Grenadier: Talent “Grenade Feeder” now also reduces cooldowns of “Smoke Grenade,” “Cluster Bomb,” and “Holy Hand Grenade” by 3 seconds.
  • Demonologist Succubus: Added “Rakaiah's Book of Souls” to the “Information and Statistics” menu — tracks absorbed soul bonuses and the most powerful soul types claimed.
  • New Talent System:
- Talents no longer consume ability points.
- At level 5, heroes gain access to two basic talents.
- At level 11, if at least one basic talent is learned, two additional talents become available.
- Talent slots unlock at levels 5, 11, 22, and 33.
- New Talents:
- Mountain Champion – Versatile Warrior (Basic): Auto-attacks and hero abilities deal bonus damage equal to 0.5 x AGI + 0.5 x INT (capped at 2 x Hero Level).
- Tauren Defender – Spiritburn Glyphs (Basic): Carve ancestral glyphs onto weapons. Auto-attacks and “Sweeping Strike” deal +0.5 x INT magical damage. Grants INT +4.
- Crusade Commander – Holy Wrath (Basic): Auto-attacks, “Circular Assault,” and “Shield Bash” deal +0.5 x INT magical damage. Damage vs. Undead and Demons is doubled. Each such strike consumes 1 mana.
- Grenadier – Safety Protocols (Basic): The hero and their “Training Dummy” no longer take firearm damage from the hero’s own abilities. They gain: +1 DEF, -15% crit damage from enemy auto-attacks, and -8% elemental and firearm damage taken.
- Ranger-Hunter – For All Occasions (Extra): Prepares special arrows for “Bullseye Shot” and “Rain of Arrows,” applying effects based on arrow type selected from the “Ranger Arsenal”:
- Poisoned: applies respective poison.
- Lightweight: +0.5 x AGI bonus damage.
- Magical: +3 x INT magical damage, costs 30 mana.
- Crippling: +3% of current HP bonus damage (non-mechanical targets).
- Incendiary: 50% chance to ignite target for 20 sec, dealing 15 DPS.
- Nerubian Broodmother – Arcane Heritage of Nerub (Extra): Grants INT +5. Newborn spiderlings gain 40 starting mana. When consumed via “Cannibalism,” their mana is also absorbed. Unlocks “Arcane Pulse” ability: consumes 50% of current mana from hero and nearby spiders to deal equivalent spell damage to nearby enemies. Enhances “Exploding Spiders” to deal additional magical damage equal to their current mana (ignores armor and range).
- Necrolyte – Dark Initiation (Basic): Dedicate new victims to the Void. Monster kills grant +7% gold and XP. For every 10 enemies slain by the party, each hero gains 1 Trophy Point (usable to boost STR, AGI, or INT). Max: 5 points.
- Demonologist Succubus – Pain Pact (Basic): Links the hero to an allied unit, redirecting 33% of damage taken. Link lasts until the target dies. Only one pact can be active. Damage isn’t transferred to invulnerable units or units beyond 1000 range. Cannot be used on machines. Can cancel the pact by targeting self. Enhances “Fel Rage”: it also affects the pact target. If the pact target isn’t a demon, attack speed and lifesteal bonuses are reduced by ⅓.
- Goblin Tinker – Surprise Kaboom (Extra): Enhances “Clockwork Goblins.” When destroyed, a mini-bomb is left behind, exploding after 3 sec and dealing up to 150 damage in a small radius.

QUESTS:
  • New mid-game quest “Loaded for Bear,” unlocked after completing “A Howl in the Night.” Given by Doran Ironpaw in Dun-Nor, north of the Workshop.
  • NPC voice lines outside of cutscenes can now be heard by nearby players, not just the speaking hero’s controller.
  • “Little Joys of Life”: new requirement added — collect souls of 6 different types of level 7+ enemies.

CREEPS:
  • XP and gold from monster kills are now evenly distributed among all heroes, regardless of distance or involvement.
  • Abilities and items that increase gold and XP rewards (e.g., “Skin Gathering,” “Pendant of Experience”) now affect the base reward before it’s shared.
  • Players now receive base rewards for bosses even if another player lands the killing blow.
  • New monsters: Snobolds. They are small kobold-like humanoids that serve Magnataurs. Use fire and corrosive fungal spores in battle.
  • New unique monsters: “Freebooter Captain,” “Freebooter Ship.”

MERCENARIES:
  • The last used auto-cast state is now retained for newly summoned mercenaries and units (works for “Web,” “Bloodlust,” “Raise Dead,” etc.).
  • “Full-Metal Golem”: When upgraded with a modulator, the “Heavy Bash” ability now scales with “Mercenary Intellect Training” level.

ITEMS:
  • New Item: “Captain's Tankard of Revelry”. It is a reward for killing the “Freebooter Captain.” Drinking from it causes no negative effects. Dropping it from inventory instantly sobers the hero. Antidotes will not remove drunkenness caused by this tankard.
  • Dwarven Ale: Drunkenness duration reduced from 20 to 15 seconds.
  • Runic Amulet & Runic Harpoon: Tooltip updated. All bonuses now apply to the final chance value (after accounting for monster strength), not the base value. With low Luck (<10), rune drop chance is now slightly higher. With high Luck, drop frequency is slightly lower compared to earlier versions.
  • New Item: “Symbiotic Spores” dropped by boss “Snobold Regent.” Grants permanent +2 HP/sec regen and +4% ability damage. Unlocks the active ability “Spore Symbiosis”: restores 25% HP and 10% mana; 60 sec cooldown.

OTHER:
  • Added support for Classic HD graphics in Warcraft III Reforged 2.0. SD map version is recommended for this mode, as some models in the Full version appear in HD.
  • Resolution of all SD icons increased from 64×64 to 128×128. Resolution of disabled HD icons reduced from 256×256 to 128×128.
  • New difficulty feature for “Advanced” “Director's Cut,” and “Hardcore” modes: “Reckoning” settings, allowing you to fine-tune challenge modifiers. Four reckonings, each with 3 progression levels:
- Time limit for “Gift of the Forsaken” after first death (8 / 6 / 5 hours).
- Limited lives (60 / 30 / 18).
- Death penalties (Gold / XP / Attribute).
- Permanent monster empowerment: bonuses to movement speed, regeneration, Luck, and scaling.
- New Difficulty - Sadistic:
- +15% to base monster count.
- +10 monster scaling.
- +150% boss HP.
- All 12 reckonings enabled.
- Max 3 save loads per run (“Iron Will Mode”).
  • After starting a game, modifiers based on selected hero count are now displayed.
  • “Gift of the Forsaken” can now be extended even after its timer or lives are fully consumed.
  • Contributor Shop:
- Unlimited “Gift of the Forsaken” cost now scales based on reckoning level.
- In “Iron Will Mode,” you can buy additional save loads.
- Final rank calculation reworked:
- Learned abilities no longer count toward score.
- Each difficulty level increases final score multiplier by 10% (up to +50% in Sadistic).
- Max score now 1050 (was 1000).
  • Default button positions for “Patrol” and “Attack” restored to prevent conflicts with third-party tools or custom layouts.
  • Map area expanded. The outer map edge is now farther from the playable zone.
  • More penguins have been added.

HEROES:
  • "Gift of the Forsaken": Now grants 3 seconds of invulnerability to the hero immediately upon resurrection at graveyards.
  • "On the March": Now increases movement speed of heroes and mercenaries out of combat by 20% on Story, Normal, and Challenge difficulties (previously 15% across all difficulties).
  • Camera zoom can now be adjusted with the command "-zoom X," where X is a value between 1400 and 2400.
  • Grenadier: "Soldiering Skills" Talent. Stat bonuses increased to STR+4, AGI+6, INT+2 (previously STR+3, AGI+5). Movement speed bonus raised to 20 units (from +5%). Also increases Luck by 1 point.
  • Ranger-Hunter: "Rain of Arrows" Ability. Damage increased from 3.5/4/4.5/5/5.5 to 4/5/6/7/8 x AGI.
  • Necrolyte: "Plague" Talent. Plagued undead now explode on death, dealing firearm damage to enemies in a 250 radius up to 2 x INT.
  • Demonologist Succubus: "Soaring" Talent. Increased miss chance of melee attackers from 7% to 21% and added a 30-unit movement speed bonus.
  • Goblin Tinker: "Goblin Land Mine" Ability. Placement radius increased from 200 to 240.
  • Goblin Tinker: "Time is Money" Talent. Added "Damage Compensation" trait, reducing hero ability damage to mercenaries and allied units (controlled by other players), based on the insurance deposit. For every 2000 gold earned in the "Money Doesn't Smell" quest, damage reduction is 15% (up to a 75% reduction).
  • Goblin Tinker: "Unstable Isotope" Talent. Now grants INT+5 and boosts all Luck modifiers (including negative) by 25%. Explosion damage raised to 8 x INT. Durability of "Kaja'mite Battery" increased from 350 to 450.

QUESTS:
- "Caravan (Blood Elves)": After killing bosses, wagons now require explicit signaling from Elaniel to proceed.

CREEPS:
  • Auto-Leveling Balance: Reduced impact in early stages; increased for late-game.
  • Bosses now regenerate health quickly if they don’t take significant damage and heroes remain at a distance (even if bosses are still in player sight).
  • Minimum recommended hero level is now displayed for each boss. Defeating a boss at or below this level grants extra rewards (150–400 gold per player, depending on boss strength) and crystals (1 per every 4 bosses defeated at the recommended level). Highest-level character in the party is used for multi-hero groups. Achievement added for defeating all 24 bosses with bonus rewards.
  • Summoned monster units now have a unique visual effect.
  • Murloc Tyrant: Level reduced from 12 to 11.
  • Magnataurs: Attack power increased by 25%.

MERCENARIES:
  • Added "Attack Restriction" command for mercenaries to prevent them from independently seeking attack targets.
  • Released mercenaries can now be reclaimed without additional resources. Unique heroic mercenaries are reclaimable at the "Mercenary Camp."
  • Transport Ship: Movement speed increased by 10% on Story, Normal, and Challenge difficulties.
  • Transport Ship: New ability, "Harpoon Cannon," deals 50 damage to a targeted enemy. The harpooned target has reduced movement speed (-33%) for 10 seconds, and subsequent ranged attacks deal 33% additional damage.
  • "Mercenary Gear": New upgrade for all mercenaries. Each level can be purchased from settlers upon reaching reputation level 4. Grants HP +100, DEF +1, ATK +10, and +0.5 mana/sec. Cost: 2500 gold. Maximum 3 upgrades. Does not apply to pets under "Beast Taming".
  • Mercenaries now deal 1% more damage and receive 1% less damage per level of the commanding hero.
  • Pursuit Mode: No longer overrides the hero’s current command. The hero will continue exactly to the designated point, even if crossing mercenary paths.
  • Additional command panel added for "Bear Companion" and "Glacial Monstrosity."
  • Steam Tank: Respawn time reduced from 165 to 120 seconds.
  • "Built-in Modulator" Upgrade for Full-metal Golem: Now grants mercenary status, with destroyed golem remains automatically restored and returned to the hero after 120 seconds. Can carry up to 6 items.

ITEMS:
  • "Robe of the Netherone" (cloak): New composite artifact requiring "Banshee Ring," "Phantom Amulet," "Mage Robes," and 4 crystals. Attributes: INT +35, DEF +5, mana regeneration +40%. Grants 25% dodge chance; dodging applies "Mark of the Netherone" to the attacker for 10 seconds, reducing their attack power by 20% and increasing incoming damage from the hero by 20%. Activating the cloak deals 7 x INT damage and marks all enemies in the target area.
  • "Healing Staff": Recipe cost reduced from 4 to 2 crystals. Now requires "Murloc Glands." Healing power changed from 400 HP to (300 + 3 x INT). Additionally, boosts health regeneration by 5 HP/sec for 30 seconds to the hero and all nearby allies. Cooldown reduced from 30 to 25 seconds.
  • "Duplication Staff": Cooldown increased from 30 to 45 seconds. Copies take 50% more damage.
  • "Mana Shield": Now absorbs 75% of all incoming damage (including ability damage), consuming 1 mana per 2 points of absorbed damage.
  • "Scroll of Healing": Now can drop from one of the Ice Troll Huts.
  • "Crown of Magic": Applies "Magic Overload" (INT -15) for 30 seconds when used.

OTHER:
  • Added additional messages indicating when an ability or item cannot be used in specific situations.
  • HD-mode graphics: Icons for inactive units and abilities have been recreated.
  • Heroes can now be switched using [Left Arrow] and [Right Arrow] during hero selection.

  • Bleeding Effect. Applies to a living target when its remaining health drops below 50%. The target loses 0.1%/0.2%/0.3%/0.4%/0.5% of its maximum health per second for 10 seconds. The absolute damage from bleeding cannot be less than 2/4/6/8/10 HP/sec.

  • New item "Magical Dream-Mushroom". Can be collected in Mushroom Glade (up to 3 pieces). +33% to ability damage, +100% to mana regeneration speed. Regular attacks have a 50% miss chance. Detects invisible units. Duration - 60 seconds.
  • New item "Ice Souvenir". Reward for killing the "Solid Ice Elemental". 2% chance to freeze the target for 1.5 seconds on attack. Grants +1 STR, +1 AGI, +1 INT. In water, can summon a "Minor Ice Elemental" for 30 seconds.
  • New item "Treasure Seeker's Pouch". Sold at the Leatherworker's House. Doubles the chance to drop coins after killing a monster, increases the hero's luck by 3. When used, reveals the location of coins and treasures within a 2000 unit radius.
  • New item "Dwarven Banner". Sold at Dun'Nor Fortress (requires reputation level 5). "Aura of Resilience": increases the defense of friendly and neutral units by 2 and reduces damage from magical and elemental attacks by 5%.
  • New item "Nerubian Banner". Sold at Monolith of Azhad-Nerub (requires reputation level 5). "Aura of Sorcery": increases mana regeneration of friendly and neutral magical units by 1 HP/sec and increases heroes' ability damage by 7%.
  • "Sin'dorei Banner" moved to the Commander's Estate, now requires reputation level 5 for purchase.
  • "Trickster's Helm" now costs 500 gold and 1 crystal (was 900 gold and 1 crystal).

Did Crusader commander hero, on normal.
Took me 7 hours and some, final score 628, I think. Solo.

Overall, very nice experience, running around with a small army was fun, even if I had to be careful not to get hit, since I died faster than some of my own units. Still, that only added to the experience. But I wasn't really having a hard time, just had to be careful.

The final battle was really easy, honestly, I was afraid to even approach the base, but I probably could have beaten it without support of the dwarves, elves, nerubians and mercenaries.

Nice quests, voice-acting and pretty large map too, sometimes I had hard time orienteering on the map, but that is to be expected from such a size.

Overall rating is 5 stars, very fun, if lengthy experience.

I am planning a second run with a different hero and higher difficulty.

Patch (September 23, 2025) - Northrend RPG 2.0.13

HEROES:
  • Nerubian Broodmother. Talent "Arcane Bloodline of Nerub": mana cost for the pulse increased to 75% (was 50%).
  • Goblin Tinker. Talent "Time is Money": the "Damage Compensation" trait now also applies to other heroes (and their summoned units) controlled by the same player.
  • Goblin Tinker. Talent "Surprise Kaboom": damage increased to 200 (was 150).

QUESTS:
- "Portal Network": crystal rewards increased from 4/2/2 to 6/4/3 (per player, depending on the number of players).

ITEMS:
  • "Dwarven Ale": effect duration reverted to 20 sec. (was 15 sec.).
  • "Electric Shield": now requires "Amulet of Spell Shield" for crafting. Defense bonus increased to +8 (was +7). Added a new trait, "Spell Shield": periodically blocks harmful targeted spells cast on the hero. Cooldown: 30 seconds.

OTHER:
  • Difficulty "Sadistic": removed the additional base boss empowerment. Scaling growth from defeating bosses increased from 1 to 2. Scaling cap raised from 150 to 180.
  • Adjusted tower placement at the Scourge base’s southwestern gate.

I played this map and I'm so confused as to why this is not Director's Cut yet?? LOL

I only played an hour but the overall gameplay was good and the story felt nice, some quests were confusing but ok.

Here are some minor things I think can be improved:

1)
There is absolutely zero reason to have health bars on "useless buildings" that are just there for decoration lol

You can either give them the "locust" ability or if you want them to be select-able without hp bars you can set "Art - Selection Scale" to -1

2) Highlight Aura I find this to be extremely useful for RPG maps, easier way for quests/shops.

3) This might just be a "me" problem but I prefer an Equipment System like this instead of having all the items in the hero's inventory, it creates more space for using potions etc. (the system I linked is old btw, better to make your own)

I think I might make another review if I try to play a different class so far the Ranger-Hunter class seemed balance and good.
 
This bug have not been reported before. Could you attach screenshots with bug and your graphics preferences?
I thought then common and so known it was and that others will surely report it, thus reporting I bothered not. It was of moderate difficulty to me for things, just some related to this, in me messed up. Other players too suffered the same, WTii in his playings too, or at least some other who shared the gameplay.

I wish this map to increase in complexity for all things, it to receive new things I wish just a little to moderate amount.

Yeah. I believe it was an old reforged bug, which has been fixed some times ago by blizzard.
 
You played and liked the Foundation of Durotar? This is somewhat similar experience with unique items, quests directly from the Undead WoW starting location, plus some Northrend maps.
There's no unique hero, because it's a highlight of what regular undead players in WoW could achieve.
Played as succubus, was very fun.
Don't understand why this campaign isn't a High Quality marked.
Wish the author to continue working on this campaign, add Reforged 2.0 version, more quests, more dungeons and more fun. But again, even in this current stage it's a very pleasant experience no one should avoid.

Hello, thank you for your review and kind words! The Foundation of Durotar is one of the main inspirations for this project. The key difference is that Northrend RPG features a cooperative mode and is designed as a single map, rather than a campaign with multiple zones.

It already supports Reforged 2.0 (but not tested on the latest update 2.0.4). Additionally, new content can be added through future updates if there is enough community interest and support.
 
This is golden. I played 10 hours on this. Some bosses are hard to defeat but with the proper troop selection and self enhancement, everything is possible. Game scaling is good as far as the difficulty plays at. Controls are easy with troops automatically following you, though using potions can be confusing at times. Terrains are hard to guess, but that's the beauty of this sandbox-like game. All in all, a great map.

Hello! I need your map to be made compatible for online multiplayer on the KK Official Battle Platform. Unfortunately, it currently doesn’t support KK and can only be played online via Radmin VPN or Battle.net.
Most players in China use the KK Official Battle Platform for Warcraft 3 multiplayer. Very few people are willing to download Radmin VPN or use Battle.net just to play this map.
Could you please provide the original trigger scripts to adapt the map for KK platform compatibility? I’m looking forward to your reply. Also, may I ask when the next map update will be released?
