I think part of the reason the Naga contest was so successful is that it offered a wide variety of models to chose from to texture, so there was a very large amount of possibilities and everyone had their own model. If we do buildings I would keep it open to all buildings, even if most people tend to want to re-skin ancients. That or go with a broad theme that offers a wide variety of models to texture, such as a futuristic or racial theme. Night Elves are a similar race to naga in that they not only have the actual night elves, but beasts, dragonkin, elementals, dryads and so on, just as the naga race has turtles, couatls, mur'guls and so on...

Good idea, but what about skinning any of the other races? Doesn't they have equally variation?

The Night Elf Sentinels seemed the most interesting race for me, but the Orcish Horde could offer a lot to choose from as well, especially if you include WC1, WC2, and WoW allies to them. Dragons, Ogres, Mok-Nethal, goblins, chaos orcs...
The alliance and scourge might be interesting as well, but with the amount of undead skins...well I suppose that could lead to a good turn out. A zombified version of nearly every model has been created though, and I feel if the scourge was chosen as the theme it would primarily consist of zombified units, and disregard the more creative members of the race such as the obsidian destroyer, nerubians, gargoyles, etc.

futuristic theme seems open ended enough to work out, I'm not sure if a clash between the future and the past will work out to well though. It sounds interesting enough.

Ancient civilizations such as Greek/Roman/Egyptian are already used for actual WC3 units (satyrs, centaur, minotaur (Tauren), harpies, hydra, chimera, dryad, obsidian destroyer (sphynx)... so I'm not sure how well this idea would work out or how much unused ideas there are to work with besides something like gladiators, Spartans, and Pharaohs.

themed doodad packs sounds all right, most doodads have really easy wraps to work with, so everything would be pretty easy to work with and put in the right spot. I'm not sure how much you could do with doodads though, and picking which skin to do might be a matter of some discrepancy. Some doodad skins are used for more than 20 models, while others are used for 1. Maybe do something were each contestant must re-skin a minimum of X doodads and as many skins as it takes, as well as complying with the skin rules to re-do at least 75% of the doodads for each skin. This idea seems a little tough to work out but w/e

random idea:
Pirates! Yar :D
