New Project: Alliance Of Darkness - Chronos

My new project I want to present here is called "Alliance Of Darkness" (AoD) with the subtitle "Chronos". The basic idea was to create a map, that combines the gameplay of Return to Castle Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory, the Classes of World of Warcraft and Creep leveling just like in "Defense of the Ancients".
Two Teams, the Scourge and the Alliance fight for specific objectives to win the game. One team has to attack, the other one must defend.

Why "Chronos" ?


"Chronos" as a "subtitle describes the giant frost wyrm, that has to be killed by the alliance (attackers) and which is held by the scourge (defenders) deep in the alterac mountains. The Alliance has to escort a steam tank to the hideout of Chronos. There, the tank destroys both gates to Chronos, so that the Alliance can defeat Chronos. The Scourge has to "survive" and if Chronos is not killed in 30 minutes it wins the game. Both teams can also destroy the "main objective" by so called "Soul Traps", only placeable by a "Warlock" (one of five classes), but more about that later.

Ok, how can I do this ?

Each player controls one hero, each hero stands for one class (Warlock, Mage, Warrior, Priest and Hunter) and each class has unique abilities which cost no mana and are required to win the game. For example, the Warrior:

Only Warriors can construct barricades, towers or bridges and destroy them with an explosive barrel (30 sec. Timer, can be defused).

The Mage has a so called "Storm Of Elements" ability. He can create paths over rivers or destroy a trunk that prevents units to take an abbreviation, for example. "Mana Bombs" can destroy "Fountains of Life" (which can only be activated by a priest) and so on...

- certain Power Ups (Runes) on the map can improve speed, damage, or armor for a few seconds for example.
- 5 outdoor bosses can be defeated, they can only be killed with more players and drop rare and epic items.
- the bear on the pic is one of 5 pets the hunter can tame
- shops sell items and armor, but only the goblin shop has very cheap items like life and mana potions and some "gadgets" like the RepaiR-O-Bot, which can also build up and destroy towers, bridges and barricades, so you don´t have to have a warrior in your team (but the bot is summoned and disappears after 60 seconds)
- Hunters can plant landmines, they can be made visible by clicking on them, when you find them
- Chronos comes every few seconds and attacks one player of the alliance (can only be evaded with an invisibility potion)
- Priests can activate fountains of life and revive certain "creatures" (Stones --> Stonegolem f.e.), but first they must be found on the map ;)
- only Priests can gather herbs that are located at specific points on the map, instantly creating potions of life and mana
- two "pack" pets on the map for the hunter can not attack, but provide an inventory and have a life and mana reg. aura
- gore level is very high...heroes can bleed and they often explode when killed

So far so good: I mapped this mod over three years now, always when I had time for it. The other two races are also finished, but they do not come in "Chronos". I first did two other maps with other objectives called "Scorpion Isles" and "Gold Mine", but this is the first official "finished" map.

It´s my first map ever and I wanted to give the map a chance to be tested online. This is a beta, so there may still be some bugs.

As I wanted to find out the possibilies of the World Editor for myself, the triggering and map design may be...just bad. But I hope you enjoy the map anyway.

Well, I changed the quality of the images, and uploaded them elsewhere, without hosting labels...sry, didn´t know, that this is not allowed =/

The biggest problem is: most players want to kill the enemy heroes and do not know, that the tank and chronos are more important than anything else. The teamgame does not realy exist...it´s most fun, when all players know what they have to do and what they CAN do with their class. I added some hints and tipps, descriptions in the questlog but most players do not read this :cry:

I changed the map description, so that it is easier to find out what to do.
Uploaded a newer Version. Hope I can add a 1on1 and 2on2 gamemode with 3 or more heroes per player.

Perhaps I should write some things about the normal abilities you can use on the map to win the game. Each class has two normal abilities, and four hero abilities:

Warrior:

Normal abilities:

- "Explosive Barrel": summons an explosive, that can destroy towers, bridges, soul traps and barricades, has a 30 sec. timer
- "Repair/Construct": constructs towers, bridges and barricades, can also be used to defuse explosives or landmines

Hero abilities:

- "Enrage": +attack speed, +movement speed, can be cast on friendly heroes
- "Execute": 130 dmg (lvl1) instant, heavy melee attack
- "Hurl Morning Stars": stuns the target for 2 sec. (lvl1)
- "Flesh Wall": +life regeneration, +armor, can be cast on friendly players

Warlock:

Normal abilities:

- "Power Infusion": activates so called "soul traps", used to damage the main objective for 25% per soul trap, are invisible ( = big landmines for steam tank, "fresh meat" for Chronos (like traps))
- "Shade": summons a shade, that is able to generate mirror images and to pickpocket enemy heroes for 10 gold

Hero abilities:

- "Immolate": Damage over time spell, like in WoW
- "Cripple": same as in WCIII
- "Succubus": offensive demon, +dmg but -armor, has "Charm" and "Critical Strike" abilities in later levels
- "Infernal": defensive demon, -dmg but +armor, has "Thunder Clap" and "Lava Armor" abilities in later levels.

Mage:

Normal abilities:

- "Storm Of Elements": generates ice bridges over rivers or destroys for example a tree to clear the path so that friendly players can attack on two different sides, triggered ability, generally creates another way to the objective
- "Mana Bomb": destroys fountains of life, soul traps and towers, has a 5 sec. timer

Hero abilities:

- "Pyroblast": big fireball, heavy spell damage, instant
- "Freeze": icy AE wave
- "Polymorph": just like in WoW
- "Ice Block": - " -

Priest:

Normal abilities:

- "Knowledge Of Nature": can pick up flowers, mushrooms and bushes to instantly generate a stack of mana or health potions, can be given to friendly players
- "Revitalization": activates Fountains of Life and resurrects "dead matter" (Stone ==> Rockgolem, Gargoyles in stoneform ==> normal Gargoyles), sending them to the opposing force

Hero abilities:

- "Heal": heals an amount of hitpoints
- "Silence": silence enemy, preventing him from casting spells for few seconds
- "Mana Burn": burns mana and deals damage
- "Gargoyle": summons a Gargoyle as a personal guardian

Hunter:

Normal abilities:

- "Cutlass": cuts nets, ropes, frees ensnared friendly units, can free also neutral units to send them to the opposing force
- "Tame Beast": tames a neutral creep, 4 different types can be found on the map, each with an own ability (bear, scorpion, wolf, hawk)

Hero abilities:

- "Ensnare": just like in WCIII
- "Landmine": places a landmine, you get a message when so triggered it
- "Aimed Shot": heavy damage, instant
- "Searing Arrows": same as in WCIII

The normal abilities can be used on the map, so a perfect team should consist of every class. The Alliance can win the game by activating and holding at least four of five soul traps or escorting the tank to the gates, to kill Chronos by an explosive in 30 minutes. The Scourge can destroy the tank with four soul traps activated or has to survive the 30 minutes and defend Chronos.
Hope you have a better imagination about the gameplay now =)
