MPQ Draf & MPQ editing

Hi, I want to make a mod through mpq editing (like "The Tales of Raviganion"), not through editing the world editor. I know mpq draft can create an .exe to play with your edited mpq and I use mpq master to edit the mpq's. Can someone give me a general tutorial or help how to make a basic mpq mod ? I want to replace atleast one of the four races, while also preserve the computer AI.
