Well I moved off to Starcraft 2, and I do say that I miss how quickly things could get done in the world editor, but I have to say that I am not coming back to wc3. That being said, I think that I had some awesome projects that I was working on, these being probably the most innovative out of the bunch.

These maps ended in beta, so they will have bugs and/or missing functionality.

"Super Smash Brothers"

This map was interesting because it was the first super smash brothers knockoff that used a side scrolling camera and physics (sort of at least), this one ended having two game modes (timed, stock) and three fully functional heroes (pickachu, young link, and kirby, bowser was never finished). Only comes with one stage, but you can see where I was going pretty well, and I think I captured the feel of the game as well as one could with computer controls.

"Explore"

I wanted to capture a feeling of discovery with this map, and since I was going to be the creator of it, I wanted to have this feeling myself. So, I embarked on the mission to create algorithms for a randomly generated environment that would work, and be relatively pretty to look at. I ended up with quite a WoW-esque look, but that obviously could have been changed pretty easily. I think I was eventually going to make sort of a survival type game, maybe even end up with a Spore-like gameplay, starting as one person and eventually building a village, who knows. I had finished the algorithms for the terrain shape, but I had quite a bit to go with doodads, texture, and other instances. I really liked where I was going in this one.

"Tag"
attachment.php

I have always liked tags, and out of the exploring concept, I took the algorithms and wanted to make a flatter, randomly generated terrain for a tag like map. I have some novel ideas for the gameplay that never came to fruition, but I solved a huge problem I had, which was the absence of a minimap that could be useful when it comes to randomly generated terrain, which was my big accomplishment for this map.

Anyway, I attached these maps so people could try them and get inspired or whatnot. I sadly won't be furthering the progress on these maps, so don't bother reporting bugs. Working in the Starcraft 2 Editor now, so onward and upward!

Yeah that was definitely the map I was most excited about, towards the end I almost didn't want Starcraft 2 to come out, there was so much potential to be had.

It's probably worth it to note that the pathing for the water is relatively correctly generated as well, as it kind of shows it in the test map, I was trying to work the best way to make someone swim, so when the guy jumps into the ground when he walks into water that means it was a change of pathing.

I also think that it is also kind of refreshing to see the terrain create itself in the beginning, I don't know, maybe it's just me though.
