Do you have a lot of pre-placed units on your map (critters, player units, creep camps)? Or does it start completely empty?

One thing I've personally experienced & been able to reproduce consistently is that my load times increase linearly with the number of units I've hand-placed on my map. I think it may have something to do with the engine trying to calculate all their pathing during map initialization, but that's just my guess.

I've considered using scripts to place them after the map loads to see if that would help, but I haven't had the time or energy.

Yes, map has pre-placed units. But I experience this issue even on nearly-empty maps.
However right now this long start isn't big problem, maybe because launching only WC3 and nothing else can be helpful for CPU.
