ligth prism and other stuff

hello guys, i have found this item called ligth prism from almost the beggining of the game and i still dont know what is it for, i tried to use it in so many things and none seems to give me a clue of what to do with it.....

The other thing is how do i get the gem that opens the door in the west wing area, please help!!

The Light Prism bends colors. Think about multi-colored runes you've seen.
The gem can be taken by getting "attuned" to Nature, by inspecting an obelisk with a blue circle in front in close proximity to the gem itself.
