Pretty much every rpg out there wont let you equip two of anything which is nice but what if you could equip what ever items you wanted?

If you guys were going to play an rpg would you rather have the equipment system that you put on a head slot a chest slot a weapon slot or would you guys like to have a system where say weapons increase your attack speed + their specific increases to attributes and a chest plate means that you wouldn't take 50 extra damage on attack, a helmet means that you wouldn't get stunned on attack, etc. That way you could equip all the same item and have very high attack, hp, defense (what ever the bonus of the item is) but you would be risking excessive damage, stun, slow, etc.

Which way would you guys like to use in a rpg the old equipment system or one like the one I posted.

Yes my idea was to keep a unique equipment system using the heros own ability "inventory (hero)"

Heros can hold any items that they want in there inventory and get bonuses from them. They also will have a back pack whether its a wisp that follows you or an invisible unit that you can't see it will be able to use items (not equip ables) for you and have the bonuses given to the hero. Having a backpack will allow you to move materials, create items, use potions n' such.

I kind of like that equipment system though.. but then again what doesn't look better than the 6 slots that you have to do fuck all with. So I could eliminate the back pack idea and the unique equipment system and just use the one that Eleandor posted. Which is my favorite idea, but does anyone think the unique equipment system would be fun at all?

Nah. It really gets in the way to have to switch inventories all the time in TKOK and that's the main reason why I don't play it. Stick with the WC3 system but with triggers to make it more like an equipment system.

I might also suggest that clicking an item in your inventory would equip it or unequip it, so you could carry 6 swords at a time but only use one of them.

It wouldn't make much sense to wear 6 swords and have benefits from them all...
Gilgamesh! he wielded 6 swords and seemed to do so with few difficulties, you only beat him because the AI was lacking in the brain department and it was 3 V 2 (FFXII) or 4 V 2 (FF 5).
For RPGs, an equip system is best if you want realisim, like that in ff forever. However if you do not have potions then normal inventory will do.

Just make a backpack that exists out of an following-you invisible dummy (or dummies) that can be viewed by the hero icon buttons (top left, F1 to F6).

Thanks for the feedback guys,

I have decided that the one equipment system where you can hold 6 items of the same type might be a bit retarded. But I agree after testing out the equipment system that Eleandor posted I didn't like going back and forth that much it got really annoying, but its excellent I just wish that it wasn't a spell book. If it was a multi board that would be a lot cooler and you wouldn't have to switch your ability interface every time you want to equip an item, but from seeing the awesomeness that is Dark Invasion IIs multi boards I don't think I will ever match that retardedness. So I want to keep multi boards to a very basic level or specific to the game type. ex: "Orpg, Orpg/AoS, Orpg/Minigame, etc." And use a not commonly used equipment system.

So I think the equipment system that I use in my game should be as follows:

Normal WC3 system for hero and have 6 slots
all items that are in the heroes inventory are assumed to be equipped even if its just a potion or a scroll even though they do fuck all. And there also will be a dummy unit with a second hero inventory (This means that you will have to switch like in the Equipment system that uses spell books) that you can use to hold extra equip able items, scrolls, potions, etc. I will make all potions/ scrolls triggered so that it doesn't matter who uses it the hero or the hero's back pack inventory, but I don't think it will be an invisible unit because of the fact that it uses the items and there will be a range factor on whether the item is used or not (probably some a very large range so it wont be that large of a problem, and the back pack will be teleported near you if you get to far from it for a period of time.
