Possibly with UI natives? I have seen large amounts of the UI removed for gameplay purposes, but I am not sure if this can be done only temporarily and then restored back to normal later.
Traditionally to do what you want the "cinematic mode" was used. However this forced black bars at top and bottom of the screen. It likely still does this, despite most players having wide screen displays.
Look at the standard campaign maps, they enable cinematic mode in those. This is a single trigger action named something like enable cinematic mode. Once done, you can disable it to return play to normal.
