Just a few interesting discoveries about inventory on structures and merged/unmerged/morphed units.
I used Inventory (Hero) and Unit Inventory (faction) in these tests. All units had one ability for inventory.
1. If a building is given inventory, it can receive and pick up (!) nearby items (with core inventory abilities), and it can drop them nearby. If it is allowed to use items in inventory, it will do so.
If an Ancient uproots, it can't pick up or drop items even if it is allowed to use items, but can receive them. Passive bonuses (like orbs, claws of attack and rings of protection) work as usual, except they don't give anti-air attack (mainly because weapon 2 has no anti-air capabilities). It can't use active items properly even if it is allowed to use them by the ability.
After rooting down, Ancient can pick up and drop items again, and use them properly if allowed.
2. If two units merge using Mount Hippogryph ability, their inventories get dropped.
If the resulting unit has inventory, it can pick up those items.
If after picking up items the unit unmerges, the items are dropped again.
3. If both morphed units have same size of inventory and use same ability for inventory, items are kept in same positions (as seen with heroes).
If inventory abilities are different (for example, one unit uses undead inventory and another uses night elf inventory), items are dropped even if size of inventory is same.
