But I've looked for Dota hero's spells in hive , each hero is approximately 70KB , about 40 Heros use Triggered spells , so it would be about 2.7 mb only the spells !

anyways , is there anyway to make the map smaller ?

You can normally compress the texture file (.BLP) that comes with the model for significant file size reduction.

about 40 Heros use Triggered spells , so it would be about 2.7 mb only the spells !

A triggered spell doesn't add much space to a map. Maybe a few Kilobytes (KB). Unless of course these triggered spells have custom special effects. Special effects are normally pretty small in file size too. A few more KB for custom special effects.
Dota would be below 5 megs if you would remove the sounds from it.

3 MB for the sounds? Refresh my memory, how many sounds are there? No custom music. There's just the commentary "Killing Spree" and what not. Maybe a few short custom sounds for spells yeah? If so, the sounds would probably only take 1MB or less.

well , i submit , I've got an open version of a map (uncompressed)
and it's about 15MBs , so all i'm talking about is a way to compress them !
Icefrog almost made it half the size !
is there no way ?

Use optimizer. Use widgetizer. These reduce map size by a dramatic amount.

Firstly if a map is not open source you should not modify it or especially upload a version that is open source.

First of all , there is no point on uploading a version , it's well-known enough that if someone else tries to upload edited version , it doesn't hurt anyone

second , i haven't upload it yet and i'm not planing to do that

third , i just got that for education , not anything else !

Secondly, the map was optimized more than protected. This removes a lot of editor only data.

forth , thanks for the information :D

Hi, i've been looking around for a way to make my maps smaller (like DotA)

You use compression methods to reduce the file size of your map. Compression is a process in which the quality and file size of a file is decreased. The more you compress, the worse your music sounds, or your textures look. If you new to it, you can try different "levels" of compression, to find a compression value that doesn't noticeably affect quality yet still reduces the file size.

Given your map is 15 MB, you probably have a lot of custom models and maybe custom sounds. Download BLPLab from The hive workshop to compress the texture files of your models (.BLP files). Google and download a program called LameXP to compress sound files like music, voice and sound effects. Third, you can download an optimizing program like widgettizer (mentioned above) to compress the actual code of your map.

Widgetizer changes some of the .w3# files into .slk files so that wc3 can load them faster. It isn't a compression tool.
